Two-time All-American earns league’s highest senior honor
BURNSVILLE, Minn. – St. Cloud State graduate student outside hitter Linsey Rachel has been named the 2022 NSIC Outstanding Senior of the Year – the conference's highest achievement for a senior student-athlete.
A native of Maple Lake, Minnesota, Rachel graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Real Estate with a minor in Finance last fall and will earn her MBA this December. She held a 3.8 undergraduate grade point average and will earn her graduate degree with a 4.0 GPA.
"Quite simply, Linsey is a model student-athlete," said head coach Chad Braegelmann, "She's one of the most humble volleyball players I've ever had the pleasure to work with. Linsey is a fantastic role model, in the classroom, on the volleyball court and off – she will graduate with her MBA in only one full calendar year. Her teammates look up to her and respect her immensely. She's extremely unselfish and does anything we ask her to do."
Voted on by league coaches, the NSIC Outstanding Senior of the Year Award is presented to a NSIC volleyball student-athlete who participates at their institution for four years and is academically superior while making a positive contribution to their team and the University. The NSIC Outstanding Senior of the Year award was initiated in 2021 to honor an outstanding senior that exemplifies the attributes of the model NSIC student-athlete.
Rachel is the program's only two-time All-American and has climbed to second all-time in kills, third all-time in points and fourth all-time in digs as a Husky over the course of her four-year career. She stands 22 kills away from breaking Cami Selbitschka's career record of 1567 – a mark that has stood for 26 years.
"We are profoundly grateful for the impact that Linsey has had on our program and our department," said St. Cloud State Interim Director of Athletics Holly Schreiner, "To have had the opportunity to watch Linsey play for the last five years has been a privilege and her impact will carry on long after she has graduated. Linsey embodies what it means to be a leader both on and off the court. She is so deserving of this award – we are lucky to have her as part of the Huskies family."
In the classroom, Rachel has been a mainstay on the NSIC All-Academic team and a member of the SCSU's Dean's List during her career as she graduated Summa Cum Laude. In the community, Rachel has coached SCSU & local volleyball camps, worked with campus cleanup and the SCSU Real Estate Association.
"Linsey is a remarkable person on and off the volleyball court," said Huskies associate head coach Marci Taumalolo, "This award exemplifies who Linsey is and how much she has done for the St. Cloud State Volleyball program. I am so thankful for the opportunity to coach her, have our team learn from her and watch her break milestones in her final year as a Husky!"
Rachel has earned numerous athletic honors throughout her collegiate career including two All-American notices, four All-Region honors, four NSIC Player of the Week nods and was both Region and NSIC Freshman of the Year in 2018.
