RedHawks score three goals during major power play to grab momentum
OXFORD, Ohio – A closely contested series finale changed on a dime, as No. 4 St. Cloud State Men's Hockey (14-4-0, 7-3-0 NCHC) allowed three goals during a major penalty and fell 5-0 to Miami (6-10-2, 2-7-1 NCHC) on Saturday night in Oxford, Ohio. The loss snapped a six-game winning streak for the Huskies, who close the first half of its season with a 7-3-0 mark and 20 points in conference play.
TURNING POINT
Both teams were held scoreless for the entire first period and most of the second period before graduate defenseman Brendan Bushy (Thief River Falls, Minn.) was called for a five-minute major and game misconduct for a hit to the head with 4:41 remaining in the second period. Miami was able to take advantage of the Huskies misfortune, scoring three times before the end of the period to take control of the game.
The RedHawks were able to tack on a power play goal and an empty net goal in the third period to close the score at 5-0.
TOP HUSKIES
St. Cloud State will now be off until an exhibition contest against Manitoba on Friday, Dec. 30. The next time the Huskies take the ice for a regular season game against No. 2/3 Minnesota on Saturday, Jan. 7.

- Senior Dominic Basse (Alexandra, Va.) made 24 saves in the game, while all four goals he allowed came on the power play.
- Sophomore forward Mason Salquist (Grand Forks, N.D.) led the Huskies in shots on goal with six and was 8-of-16 in the faceoff dot.
- Senior forward Jami Krannila (Nokia, Finland) had four shots on goal and was 11-of-17 in the faceoff dot.
- With the loss, St. Cloud State drops to 30-17-4 all-time against Miami and 9-10-3 against the RedHawks in Oxford.
- Despite the loss, St. Cloud State led Miami in shots on goal, 36-29.
- Basse made 24 saves in the game, the fifth time this season and 34th time in his career he has logged 20 or mors saves.
- Salquist's six shots on goal were a career-high, surpassing his previous high of four, which he reached three times, most recently against North Dakota on Dec. 4, 2021.
