16th Annual John Berling Memorial Golf Outing a Success
Open letter to Husky Nation!
Â
We had another great day for our Husky Baseball golf tourney! Thank you to all the golfers, all the volunteers and all the sponsors that made it a great day of "friendraising and fundraising!
Â
And that is a wrap for the 2022 season!Â
Â
I guess I can start by saying thank you, thank you, thank you starting with our unbelievable student-athletes and especially our 10 graduating seniors that have a combined GPA of 3.30. What a great group of young man that represented our university and "OUR" baseball program for the last one to six years!
Â
Then, thank you to all of our Husky parents for the support and friendships we've all built and everything you've done to continue the GREAT culture of our Husky BASEBALL Family!
Â
And to all our alumni and other donors! Just under 300 different donors contributed financially to our baseball program, and your support goes so much further than just the finances. THANK YOU all!
Â
And to our athletic staff starting with our coaching staff, our athletic training staff, media relation, strength and conditioning, academic liaison staff and all others! And especially to our athletic administration staff and especially my direct supervisor Bruce Thompson for all the work with the crazy spring we had weather wise. And then to Heather, Rick, Holly and Alison for all of their help.
Â
As we all know, higher education is changing along with universities' enrollment across the country. This has made fundraising even more important to sustain the success we've had. A combination of the Glatzmaier Family increasing its foundation scholarship by $100,000, winning the Husky Alumni Challenge raising over $26,000, raising over $33,000 in our Husky Family & Friends Challenge and Dave Mingo's annual gift along with numerous others in our Husky fall campaign and then various other fundraisers wrapping up with yesterday's golf tournament our Husky baseball program raised just under $200,000!
Â
"OUR" Huskies finished 37-13 and runner ups in the NSIC. In the last 14 years "OUR" Huskies are 546-203. And when you add legendary coach Skip Lorsung's 500+ wins that's well over a 1,000 baseball wins! And it was so awesome seeing all the players from Skip's era with their "red sock tradition" at the golf tournament. You weren't allowed on the bus without wearing red socks and guys literally were wearing socks from 40 years ago yesterday! That is what Husky baseball is all about!
Â
The #1 reason "OUR" Husky baseball program has had the success we've had is because we have great players. We have some great facilities, great support staff and a great culture within our family. But raising the type of money that we are is a key ingredient to continuing this success, so again thank you, thank you, THANK YOU to everybody that's a part of "OUR" Husky Baseball Family!
