Linsey Rachel moves to fourth all-time in career kills in SCSU’s sixth win of 2022
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Outside hitters Kenzie Foley and Linsey Rachel shined as No. 8 St. Cloud State took down RV Palm Beach Atlantic in straight sets on Friday evening.
Foley put down a season-high 20 kills and added 10 digs for a double-double while Rachel moved to fourth all-time in career kills with an 11-kill, 12-dig double-double. Phebie Rossi hit .409 with nine kills and six blocks to round out the offensive output.
Emma Berran directed the Huskies to the tune of 35 assists, adding four digs and a block. After Rossi's team-high six, Foley (4), Makena Hollman (3) and Sam Zimmerman (2) helped combine for 9.0 total blocks.
SCSU added another 10 aces – three each from Keely Kurschner and Rachel along with two courtesy of Berran and Houle – for their third double-digit ace output in six matches.
Turning Point
St. Cloud State's defense held the Sailfish to hit .140, forcing them into 14 errors and scoring 10 times from the service line. The Huskies block provided plenty of touches, creating opportunities for the SCSU offense to consistently find their rhythm.
Quotables – St. Cloud State head coach Chad Braegelmann
"Some fairly clean volleyball from the Huskies tonight. I thought all our hitters did a nice job being efficient. We were absolutely great defensively, we didn't let many tips or rolls score. I thought our women were really locked-in. It was a good match for us, we came out with the W and we got better."
On Kenzie Foley's continued success… "Kenzie just finds a way to score. Her mindset is terminal all the time – whether she's serving, attacking, blocking – one way or the other, she will end the point most of the time. We're trying to continue to find that fine line between smart and aggressive, she does a great job when she gets her feet to the ball and contacts it pretty high. She's lethal with her arm swing, that's for sure."
On Linsey Rachel moving to fourth all-time in career kills… "Linsey has been so consistent. All of our Huskies fans have seen her for four years – she does such a great job. If we're being honest, and she'll tell you the same thing, she's not quite elevating as much as she did in the past – she had surgery in March, and that maybe hinders her a little bit. She won't ever use it as an excuse, and she just becomes a little smarter on offense. She finds the seams, tools off the block maybe more than she has in the past. She finds a way to make good volleyball plays, and she's so much fun to watch."
