
St. Cloud State Men's Basketball Holds on to Outlast WSU 74-70

Four Huskies score in double-digit marks
ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The St. Cloud State men's basketball team earned its second consecutive win as they outlast the Winona State Warriors 74-70 Friday evening at Halenbeck Hall. Eight Huskies contributed points to the board while four scored in double-digit marks.

GAME SUMMARY
It was a back a fourth start as each team tried to secure the lead. The Huskies went up 14-12 from a three-pointer by Ryan Bagley at the 15:22 mark of the first. Several minutes later the game was tied at 22 apiece at 8:10. From there, the Huskies took charge as they continued to push to hold the lead. A driving layup in the paint by Matthew Willert gave the Huskies a six point lead to go into the break up 39-33 over WSU.

Just under three minutes into the second half, Jalen Griffin knocked down a three to give the Huskies a double-digit lead. A few minutes later Luke Taylor would hit a shot from behind the arc to give St. Cloud a 14 point lead over the Warriors. Following that play, Winona State would slowly chip away at SCSU's lead as the Warriors brought it down to a five point lead at the 5:57 mark with the score being 63-58 still in favor of the Huskies. A layup with an extra basket by Tony Dahl gave St. Cloud a 71-60 lead with 3:46 left to play. The Huskies would then be stuck at 71 for the next two minutes as WSU brought the game back within three points. Winona State hit a layup with just 12 seconds left to make it a two point game but had to foul the Huskies which sent them to the line. St. Cloud executed on their free throws to hold on for a 74-70 victory.

The Huskies will host Upper Iowa tomorrow, Jan. 14 at Halenbeck Hall. The game is set for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.
