Johnson has held Associate Athletic Trainer post since June 2005
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Interim Director of Athletics Holly Schreiner has announced the promotion of Rachel Johnson to Director of Sports Medicine, effective immediately. Johnson had held the title in an interim level since Julie Alexander retired in the spring of 2021 and has worked full-time at SCSU since 2005.
"I am extremely grateful and excited for the opportunity to lead and grow the Sports Medicine Department at St. Cloud State University," said Johnson. "As a long-time Husky, it means a lot to be chosen to work alongside an amazing group of student athletes, coaches and providers. I am excited for our future!"
Since June 2005, Johnson has held the position of Associate Athletic Trainer at SCSU with the primary sport coverage of volleyball, men's basketball and swim & dive. A vital member of SCSU Athletics, Johnson has been a part of numerous conference champion and NCAA Tournament teams and has worked with numerous All-American and All-Conference Huskies. In a previous stint at SCSU, Johnson was an athletic training graduate assistant from 1997-99, including covering the women's hockey program for its inaugural season (1998-99).
Outside of SCSU, Johnson was an athletic trainer at Williams Integracare Clinic and Sartell High School from 2002-05.
Johnson is a two-time graduate of St. Cloud State University, earning her Bachelor's degree in Physiology with a minor in Athletic Training in 1995, and her Master of Science degree in Sport Management in 2007.
