St. Cloud State Men's Basketball Hit the Road for RV Minnesota State & CSP

Huskies face NSIC South Division opponents
ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The St. Cloud State men's basketball team will hit the road to take on RV Minnesota State Mankato and Concordia St. Paul for NSIC South Division matchups. The Huskies will face the Mavericks on Jan. 6 and the Golden Bears on Jan. 7.

Friday's game against the RV Mavericks will tip off at 7:30 p.m. at the Taylor Center in Mankato, MN while Saturday's game is set for 5:30 p.m. at the Gangelhoff Center in St. Paul, MN. The NSIC Network will provide the game streams while Steve Linzmeier, the Voice of Huskies Basketball, will provide audio on the Varsity Network app. Live stats will be available on the home institution's men's basketball schedule page.

A Look Back
Last weekend the Huskies fell to MSU Moorhead and Northern State. Against the Dragons, the Huskies ended the first half down 31-23 while struggling to get anything going on offense. During the second half, MSU Moorhead continued their offensive pursuit to keep the Huskies playing catch up. St. Cloud fought back and brought the game to within three points until foul trouble hit the Huskies line-up. The Dragons increased the point margin back into the double-digits where the St. Cloud was unable to close the point gap as they fell 86-72.

Against Northern State, St. Cloud struggled to get anything going offensively while struggling on defense to slow down the Wolves. Northern State went up by 17 points until the Huskies brought it back to within six points but ended the half down 45-37. During the second half, Northern State broke back into double-digits. The point deficit was too much to overcome and the Huskies fell 83-65.

St. Cloud State is currently 5-8 overall, 2-6 in NSIC play. The Huskies sit 7th in the North Division and 14th overall in the conference. Junior forward Matthew Willert is averaging 14.9 points per game and 3.6 rebounds. Junior guard Tommy Chatman is right behind averaging 13.9 points per game and 5.2 rebounds per game. Fifth-year senior guard Ryan Bagley ranks 3rd in the NSIC for assists averaging 5.4 per game.

RV Minnesota State Mankato Mavericks
RV Minnesota State Mankato is currently 11-3 overall, 5-3 in NSIC play. The Mavericks sit 2nd in the NSIC South Division and 5th overall in the conference. Minnesota State has conference wins over Concordia St. Paul twice, Winona State, Upper Iowa, and Wayne State while falling against Augustana, Sioux Falls, and Southwest Minnesota State. Minnesota State currently has the second best scoring offense in the NSIC averaging 81.9 points per game. Junior guard Malik Willingham is the Mavericks current leader averaging 18.5 points per game, 5.2 rebounds and 63 assists. Willingham is 4th in the NSIC for assists averaging 4.5 per game.

Concordia St. Paul sits 3-11 overall, 1-7 in NSIC play, 8th in the NSIC South Division and 15th overall in the conference. CSP has fallen to RV Minnesota State Mankato twice, Upper Iowa, Winona State, Wayne State, Southwest Minnesota State, and Sioux Falls with their only conference win against Augustana. Junior guard Antwan Kimmons is the Golden Bear's leader averaging 19.9 points per game, 4.3 rebounds, and 54 assists. Additionally, Kimmons ranks 5th in the NSIC for scoring, 8th in field goal percentage, and 7th in assists.
