Parsons and Schuster’s goals lift SCSU to program-best 7-2-1 through 10 games
ST. PAUL, Minn. – St. Cloud State Women's Soccer (7-2-1, 4-1-1 NSIC) struck early and added another goal in the second half to earn a 2-1 victory over Concordia-St. Paul (4-4-2, 2-2-2 NSIC) on Sunday afternoon in St. Paul. Redshirt junior midfielder Gracie Parsons (Omaha, Neb.) put the Huskies on the scoreboard first in the 16th minute, while junior forward Krysten Schuster (Beamsville, Ontario) tacked on her first goal as a Husky in the 54th minute.
With the win, the Huskies improve to 7-2-1 on the season, setting a program record for the best 10-game start in program history, surpassing its mark of 7-3-0 in the 1995 season. SCSU is now 4-1-1 in NSIC play, its best start to a conference season since a 4-0-2 mark in 2016.
TURNING POINT
Parsons got the scoring going right away in the first half, as she took a pass from Schuster around midfield and drove the ball up the center of the field. Parsons made a couple of slick moves to get past the Golden Bear defender and sent a shot to the upper right part of the net to score in the 16th minute. Parsons goal was the second of her season and gave the Huskies the momentum it needed to control the rest of the match.
St. Cloud State struck again early in the second half, as sophomore midfielder Brooke Quam (Lakeville, Minn.) and sophomore forward Ellie Primerano (Saint Joseph, Mich.) played a ball into the box for Schuster, who had her back to the net, and kicked the ball backwards past the CSP goaltender for the game-winning score in the 54th minute.
CSP would score in 79th minute, but the Husky defense was able to keep the Golden Bears at bay for the remaining of the game for the 2-1 win.
