Huskies Down Dragons on the Road Behind Goals from Quam and Spaine

SCSU has won five straight, continues to sit alone atop NSIC standings
MOORHEAD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Women's Soccer (11-2-1, 8-1-1 NSIC) beat Minnesota-State Moorhead (2-8-4, 1-5-4 NSIC) 2-0, on Sunday afternoon at Nemzek Soccer Field in Moorhead, Minn. SCSU has won five consecutive games and is unbeaten in its last eight contests.
Sophomore midfielder Brooke Quam (Lakeville, Minn.) put the Huskies up 1-0 in the first half on a goal that was assisted by redshirt junior Gracie Parsons (Omaha, Neb.). In the second half, freshman defender Ana Spaine (West Des Moines, Iowa) put the ball in the back of net after receiving a pass across the penalty box from freshman forward Linsey Trapino (Verona, Wis.). The Huskies have recorded their best ten-game start to a conference season (8-1-1) and are alone at the top of the NSIC standings with 25 points.
TURNING POINT
Parsons found Quam who went by multiple Dragon defenders before putting the back of the net, giving the Huskies a 1-0 lead in the 27th minute.
In the second half Quam sent a corner kick across the field and the ball made its way to the feet of Trapino on the backside of the goal. Trapino was able to slot the ball back across the goal and Spaine found herself at the right spot at the right time and was able to get her foot on it amongst the chaos, scoring to double the Huskies lead.

St. Cloud State returns home next weekend to play its final two home matches of the regular season. The Huskies host Sioux Falls on Friday, Oct. 20 at 6 p.m. CT and Southwest Minnesota State on Sunday, Oct. 22 at 1 p.m. CT. Sunday's match is Senior Day. Both matches will be streamed on the NSIC Network.

- Freshman goalkeeper Jaylee Strickland (Columbus, Ohio) earned the shutout and the win, saving the only two shots on goal she faced.
- With the win, St. Cloud State improves to 29-0-2 all-time against MSU Moorhead
- The Huskies led the game in shots (23-10), shots on goal (9-2) and corner kicks (8-1). MSUM led the game in saves (7-2).
- Quam scored her second goal of the season which have both come in the last three games. It was her first game-winning goal of the season. She recorded single game career-highs in shots (five) and shots on goal (three).
- Spaine recorded her first career goal.
- Parsons' assist was her third of the season which is tied for second on the team.
- Trapino assisted a goal for the second time this season. Tied her single game career-high for shots in a game (five).
- Strickland recorded her 11th win (fifth consecutive) of the season. She recorded her sixth shutout of the season. She has only allowed four goals in the Huskies eight-game unbeaten streak recording four shutouts in the same span.
- Junior forward Ariel Hawkey (Graham, Wash.) tied her single game career-high recording three shots.
