
SCSU Men’s Basketball Continues Strong Start with Another Win in the Central Region Challenge

Huskies leave Kansas City with an unblemished 2-0 record, Morgan records double-double in second collegiate game off the bench
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – St. Cloud State Men's Basketball (2-0, 0-0 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) continued its strong start to the 2023-24 season with a 74-64 win over Henderson State (0-2, 0-0 Great American Conference) on Saturday Afternoon at the historic Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City.
SCSU used another very strong second half performance to seal its second win in as many days to start the new campaign. The freshman trio of Lucas Morgan (Sydney, Australia), Anish Ramlall (Rosemount, Minn.) and Vance Peiffer (Waukee, Iowa) that made a tremendous impact in their first collegiate game, each played well again. Morgan backed up his 25-point, six-rebound collegiate debut, by recording a double-double in his second-ever college game. He scored 10 points on an efficient four-of-six from the field and nabbed 11 rebounds (four offensive and seven defensive) in 29 minutes. Ramlall led the team in points (14) and added four rebounds while making six of his seven free throws. Peiffer showed he will be on double-double watch on a nightly basis, scoring eight points and grabbing five rebounds. Redshirt-sophomore Tony Dahl (Buffalo, Minn.) stepped up big, providing 13 points and seven assists in 17 minutes after only seeing five minutes of action in the season opener. Making his 30th start as a Husky, senior Joe Mutimer (Melbourne, Australia) was the fourth Husky to score 10+ points and went 6-6 from the charity stripe.
The first half was back-and-forth again for the second night in a row, but the Huskies took the lead with 6:58 left in the first half and never looked back, leading the rest of the way. The Huskies scored 42 second half points, including 19 free throws, after going into halftime with a 32-31 lead. In the final minute, the lead swelled to 16 before HSU made a pair of three pointers to cut the final deficit to 10.

SCSU will get a week off before playing its third game of the 2023-24 season. The Huskies will make their home debut against Minnesota State in a nonconference matchup next Saturday, Nov. 18. - Morgan shined bright again, recording a double-double (10p/11r) in his second collegiate game. He was an efficient 4-6 from the field.
- Ramlall lead the team in scoring with 14 points including 10 in the second half.
- Tony Dahl was second on the team in points (13) and rebounds (seven).
- The Huskies won the team's inaugural face-off and are now 1-0 all-time against Henderson State.
- SCSU led the game in free-throw percentage (70.3%-45.0%), three pointers (8-7), free throws (26-9), total rebounds (16-29—45 - 5-22—27), second chance points (14-4) and bench points (33-23).
- The Reddies led the game in field goal percentage (47.1%-40.0%), three-point percentage (50.0%-33.3%), field goals (24-20), assists (10-8), steals (5-1), blocks (1-0), points off turnovers (23-18), points in the paint (26-16) and fast break points (6-3).
- SCSU led the game for a total of 29:49 minutes including the last 27, holding a lead as big as 16 in the second half.
- Morgan had another strong performance in his second game for the Huskies, recording a 10-point, 11-rebound double-double on 4-6 shooting in a career high 29 minutes off the bench.
- Ramlall led the team in scoring for the first time in his young career (14 points) which included 10 in the second half. He made six of his seven free throws. He tied his career-high by playing 29 minutes for the second consecutive game.
- Peiffer tallied eight points and five rebounds on 2-3 from the field and 4-6 from the free throw line, showing yet again that he has double-double potential on any given night. He played a career-high 25 minutes.
- Tony Dahl played a season-high 17 minutes and made the most of his opportunities, tallying 13 points and seven assists – both of which were second best totals on the team. He made five of his six free throws.
- Mutimer recorded double-digit points for the first time this year (11) and made all six of his free throws. He was 2-3 from the field and made his only three-point attempt as well. He recorded a team-leading three assists.
- Freshman Wyatt Hawks (White Bear Lake, Minn.) nabbed a career-high four rebounds and matched his career-high in points (two).
- Freshman Jamiir Allen (Milwaukee, Wis.) tied his career-high in minutes by logging 14 for a second consecutive game. He scored his first collegiate points and ended the game with five.
- Freshman Nate Dahl (Buffalo, Minn.) played a career-high 15 minutes in his second collegiate game. He made his first collegiate three pointer and grabbed a career-high three rebounds.
- Graduate student Craig Steele (Portage, Wis.) played a season-high nine minutes and grabbed his first rebound as a Husky.
