SCSU Men’s Basketball Falls to Minnesota State at Home

Huskies struggle in second half, drop a 78-61 result
ST. CLOUD, MINN. – St. Cloud State Men's Basketball (2-1, 0-0 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) picked up its first loss of the season to Minnesota State (3-0, 0-0 NSIC) on Saturday afternoon at Halenebeck Hall in St. Cloud by a score if 78-61.
SCSU only trailed by six points going into halftime despite turning the ball over 13 times. The Mavericks shot 16-of-22 (72.7%) from the field and 6-of-9 from three (66.7%) in the first half but allowed St. Cloud State to grab eight offensive rebounds. MSU cooled off in the second half but so did the Huskies as they shot 11-of-30 from the field (36.7%) and an icy 1-11 from, behind the three-point arc (9.1%) in the final 20 minutes. The Mavericks shot over 61% from the field and 55% from three in the game. MSU never trailed in the game and held the lead for 39:21.
Only two Huskies – graduate student Luke Taylor (Germantown, Wis.) and freshman Wyatt Hawks (White Bear Lake, Minn.) scored double-digit points as they scored 10 apiece. They both gathered four rebounds as well. Freshmen Jamiir Allen (Milwaukee, Wis.) and Lucas Morgan (Sydney, Australia) made nice contributions in their first game in Halenbeck Hall. Allen recorded nine points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals. Morgan contributed seven points and six rebounds.

- Hawks scored six of his 10 points in the first half, going 2-of-2 from the field and 2-of-2 from the free throw line.
- Morgan led the team in rebounds (six) and was fourth in points (seven).
- The Huskies hold an all-time record of 98-93 against Minnesota State.
- SCSU led the game in free-throw percentage (66.7%-58.8%), steals (6-5), points off turnovers (19-7), points in the paint (42-36), second chance points (10-4) and bench points (40-12).

- Allen played a career-high 23 minutes, scored a career-high nine points and recorded new career-highs in field goals made and attempted (4-10), three-pointers made and attempted (1-4), rebounds (three), assists (two) and steals (two).
- Morgan recorded a career-high two assists.
- Sophomore Andre Renta (Hudson, Wis.) played a season-high 10 minutes and scored a season-high six points.
- Graduate student Craig Steele (Portage, Wis.) scored his first two buckets as a Husky and finished with four points.
