St. Cloud State Men’s Basketball Falls in Final Game of 2023

Upper Iowa uses unconscious shooting performance to down Huskies
FAYETTE, Iowa. – St. Cloud State Men's Basketball (5-6 overall, 2-4 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) was unable to overcome the offensive assault of Upper Iowa, falling in its final game of 2023 on Tuesday afternoon at Dorman Memorial Gymnasium in Fayette, 115-884.
Upper Iowa (6-4, 1-1 Great Lakes Valley Conference) got off to a hot shooting start and never looked back. The Peacocks scored 56 points in the first half, shooting 22-of-37 (59.5%) from the field including 9-of-18 (50.0%) from beyond the arc. Freshman Jamiir Allen (Milwaukee, Wis.) continued his strong play, contributing nine first half points to try and keep the Huskies within striking distance.
In the second half, the Huskies received quality contributions from several players, but UIU picked up where it left off, scoring 59 points on 22-of-44 (52.3%) shooting from the field and 7-of-13 (53.8%) from three-point range. The Peacocks were led by Jake Hilmer who scored a game-high 36 points on 13-of-19 shooting from the field and a near perfect 6-of-7 from three and dished out a game-high seven assists. Nick Reid scored 22 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field and 4-of-8 from beyond the arc and grabbed seven rebounds. Noah King added 19 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field.

- Allen scored a team-high 13 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field and recorded a team-high two steals.
- Freshman Wyatt Hawks (White Bear Lake, Minn.) scored 11 points, grabbed six rebounds and blocked two shots. He made 5-of-8 shots from the field.
- Freshman Vance Peiffer (Waukee, Iowa) scored nine points and grabbed five rebounds.
- The Huskies are now 20-11 all-time against Upper Iowa after the loss.
- SCSU led the game in free throws (11-9), total rebounds (19-26—45 – 11-31—42), second chance points (25-12) and bench points (58-25).
- Upper Iowa led the game in field goal percentage (55.6%-41.6%), three-point percentage (51.6%-32.1%), free-throw percentage (75.0%-64.7%), field goals (45-32), three pointers (16-9), assists (17-15), steals (10-3), blocks (5-3), points off turnovers (24-4), points in the paint (50-38) and fast break points (7-6).
- Allen tied his career-high with two steals. He has recorded two steals in six games this season. Third career time scoring in double-digits and second consecutive.
- Hawks tied career-highs in points (11), minutes (18), free throw attempts (three), three-point attempts (one) and assists (one). He set new career-highs in field goals (five), field goal attempts (eight) and blocks (two). Third career game (second consecutive) scoring double digit points.
- Peiffer returned to action after missing the last five games. He set new career-highs in field goal attempts (nine), three-point attempts (two) and tied career-highs in three-pointers made (one) and assists (one). He has grabbed 5+ rebounds in four of the six games he has played in.
- Freshman Lucas Morgan (Sydney, Australia) scored eight points on 3-of-5 shooting from the field and grabbed five rebounds. He has grabbed 5+ rebounds in 10 of 11 games this season. He has scored 8+ points in nine of 11 games.
- Freshman Anish Ramlall (Rosemont, Minn.) finished with six points, five rebounds and three assists. Third career game with 5+ rebounds. Has dished out 3+ assists in three straight games.
- Graduate student Luke Taylor (Germantown, Wis.) scored eight points. He has scored at least eight points in all 11 games this season.
- Junior Dom Aguilar (Fergus Falls, Minn.) set season-highs in points (five), minutes (seven), field goals made (two), field goal attempts (five), three pointers made (one), three pointers attempted (three) and assists (one)
- Freshman Nate Dahl (Buffalo, Minn.) scored a career-high five points. He also recorded career-highs in field goal attempts (five), three-point attempts (two – tie), free throws made (three), free throws attempted (three) and rebounds (five).
- Redshirt sophomore Tony Dahl (Buffalo, Minn.) scored four points and grabbed two rebounds. He recorded a steal for the second consecutive game.
- Senior Joe Mutimer (Melbourne, Australia) assisted on three makes. He has tallied 3+ assists in seven of 11 games this season.
- Graduate student Craig Steele (Portage, Wis.) scored six points, tying his season high. He also tied season-highs in field goals made (two), three pointers made (two) and rebounds (three). Second consecutive game making two three pointers.
- Senior Matt Willert (Buffalo, Minn.) scored five points and dished out a season-high two assists.
