St. Cloud State Men’s Basketball Opens New Year With Runaway

Five Huskies score in double digits as SCSU raced past Minnesota Morris, 99-52
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Men's Basketball (6-6 overall, 2-4 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) opened the new year with strong performance, taking down Minnesota Morris, 99-52, on Tuesday afternoon at Halenbeck Hall in St. Cloud.
SCSU employed a balanced attack – five players score 10 or more points and all 13 Huskies that played, scored. The Huskies shot 20-of-34 (58.8%) from the field and 9-of-18 from three in the first half on their way to a 56-25 halftime lead. The Huskies cooled off in the second half and nearly missed out on scoring triple digits. Pal Dak led the Cougars (7-4, 2-0 Upper Midwest Atlantic Conference) with 14 points on an efficient 5-of-9 shooting from the field, including a perfect 2-of-2 behind the arc.

The Huskies resume NSIC play as they travel to play Sioux Falls on Friday, January 5 in Sioux Falls, S.D. and Southwest Minnesota State on Saturday, January 6 in Marshall, Minn. Friday's game is set to tip-off at 5:30 p.m. CT from the Stewart Center and Saturday's tilt is scheduled to start at 3:30 from the R/A Facility. TOP HUSKIES
- Freshman Wyatt Hawks (White Bear Lake, Minn.) recorded a double-double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. He also blocked three shots and made five of his six shots.
- Freshman Jamiir Allen (Milwaukee, Wis.) scored 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting, dished out a team-high five assists and recorded a team-high three steals.
- Freshman Anish Ramlall (Rosemont, Minn.) scored a team-high 14 points on an efficient 5-of-9 from the field and 4-of-7 from three. He added three assists.
- Biggest margin of victory (47) since a 126-48 win over Oak Hills Christian on November 12, 2019.
- With the win, the Huskies are now 30-15 all-time against Minnesota Morris.
- SCSU led the game in field goal percentage (52.8%-33.3%), three-point percentage (42.1%-33.3%), field goals (38-21), three pointers (16-5), free throws (7-5), assists (29-9), steals (9-5), blocks (5-0), points off turnovers (21-4), points in the paint (42-30), second chance points (9-6), fast break points (8-4) and bench points (63-20).
- UMN Morris led the game in free-throw percentage (71.4%-70.0%) and total rebounds (12-28—40 – 8-31—39).
- Team season-highs in field goals (38 – most since 2020-21 season), three pointers (16), three-point attempts (38), assists (29 – most since 2019-20 season), steals (nine – tie) and blocks (five – tie).
- Hawks recorded his first career double-double (10 points and 10 rebounds). He set career-highs in minutes (19), rebounds (10) and blocks (3). He tied career-bests in field goals (five) and assists (one). He has scored 10+ points four times this season, including the last three.
- Allen tallied new career-highs in assists (five) and steals (three). He has scored 12+ points in four games this season and now three games in a row. He has recorded 2+ steals in seven of 12 games this season (three straight).
- Ramlall recorded career highs in three pointers (four) and three-point attempts (seven). He recorded his first collegiate block. He has scored 14+ points in five games and has dished out 3+ assists in four straight games.
- Graduate student Craig Steele (Portage, Wis.) scored a season-high 12 points. He also set season-highs in field goals (four), field goal attempts (seven), three pointers (four), three-point attempts (six) and assists (one). He has made 2+ three pointers in three straight games. First double-digit scoring game of the year.
- Freshman Vance Peiffer (Waukee, Iowa) scored a season-high 11 points in his return to the starting lineup. He also set season-highs in field goals (five), three-point attempts (two – tie), assists (two) and recorded his first collegiate block. Second game this season scoring 10+ points. Has scored 8+ points in five of the seven games he's played in.
- Junior Dom Aguilar (Fergus Falls, Minn.) set season-highs in points (eight), minutes (10), field goals made (three), field goal attempts (six), three pointers made (two), three pointers attempted (five) and assists (one – tie).
- Senior Matt Willert (Buffalo, Minn.) scored eight points. He has scored 8+ points in seven games this season and has made 2+ three pointers in five contests.
- Freshman Nate Dahl (Buffalo, Minn.) scored a career-high seven points. He also recorded career-highs in minutes (18), field goals (two – tie), field goal attempts (five – tie), three-point attempts (two – tie), free throws made (three – tie), free throws attempted (four), assists (four) and recorded his first collegiate steal.
- Senior Joe Mutimer (Melbourne, Australia) tallied five points, four rebounds and four assists. He has tallied 3+ assists in eight of 12 games this season.
- Freshman Lucas Morgan (Sydney, Australia) scored three points, grabbed five rebounds and dished out three assists. He has grabbed 5+ rebounds in 11 of 12 games this season.
- Graduate student Luke Taylor (Germantown, Wis.) recorded three points, three rebounds, three assists (season high) and two steals (tied career high). His first game scoring fewer than eight points all season.
- Redshirt sophomore Tony Dahl (Buffalo, Minn.) tallied three points, three rebounds and two assists. He recorded a steal for the third consecutive game.
