Scribner Scores the Lone Goal for the Huskies
ST. CLOUD, MINN. – No. 8 St. Cloud State (12-5-1, 7-4-1 WCHA) ties No. 2 Minnesota (13-2-1, 9-2-1 WCHA) 1-1 on Tuesday evening at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. No. 2 Minnesota picks up the extra point in conference play as they were able to come out on top in the three-round shootout.
SANNI TIME
Goaltender Sanni Ahola (Helsinki, Finland) had a terrific game in net, allowing one goal on 27 shots faced. Ahola posted a .77 goals against average and a .967 save percentage in 65 minutes played. With the tie against the Gophers, Ahola has a 7-1-1 record this season across 9 games played for the Huskies. This week, Ahola has helped the Huskies take down No. 1 Ohio State and force a shootout against No. 3 Minnesota.
PENALTY KILLERS
Late in the third period, CC Bowlby (Edina, Minnesota) got called for contact to the head, getting called for a five minute major penalty and a game misconduct. This forced the Huskies on a penalty kill for the remainder of the third period and most of the three-on-three overtime. The Gophers would total 6 shots on goal during the major penalty, all of which being covered by Sanni Ahola. 13 total penalties were taken in Tuesday's matchup, with four being Minnesota power plays. The Huskies only allowed the Gophers 9 combined shots on those power plays.
SCRIBNER SCORES
For the first time this season, Addi Scribner (Woodbury, Minnesota) found the back of the net and it was a momentum-changing goal for the Huskies. Minnesota took the early lead in the first period on the power play but St. Cloud State held their ground. The puck took a weird bounce, causing the Gophers to turn the puck over in the defensive zone. Avery Myers (Fargo, North Dakota) was able to steal the puck, setting up Addi Scribner for the game-tying goal. With the goal on Tuesday, Scribner is now 15-20-35 in 111 games played.
