
No. 8 St. Cloud State Women’s Hockey Plays Host to No. 6 Minnesota-Duluth

A top-10 matchup in St. Cloud
ST. CLOUD, MINN. – No. 8 St. Cloud State (12-5-1, 7-4-1 WCHA) is set to host No. 6 Minnesota-Duluth (10-5-1, 7-5-0 WCHA) Friday night and Saturday afternoon at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. This is the first time this season that the conference competitors will meet.
SERIES HISTORY
The Huskies and the Bulldogs have met 107 times since their first meeting on December 18, 1998. The Bulldogs take the lead in the wins category, going 83-14-10 in their 25 years of competition against the Huskies. At home, the Huskies are 9-34-6 when going up against Minnesota-Duluth at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. The last time the Huskies were able to take down Minnesota-Duluth was February 9, 2019, on the road by a score of 3-2. Last season, the Huskies and the Bulldogs played each other six times. Emma Gentry (Alpena, Michigan), Grace Wolfe (Owatonna, Minnesota), and Taylor Lind (Shaunavon, Saskatchewan) were the only Huskies able to light the lamp against UMD last season.
LAST TIME OUT
On Tuesday, the Huskies hosted No. 2 Minnesota for a midweek, top-10 match up. Addi Scribner (Woodbury, Minnesota) would score her first of the season and lone goal for the Huskies to tie up the game at 1-1. The score would remain tied throughout the third period. The Huskies would be forced to kill of a 5-minute major penalty taken late in the final frame heading into the three-on-three overtime. St. Cloud State killed off the penalty, playing most of overtime 4-on-3. The Huskies were able to carry the puck into the offensive zone in the dying seconds of overtime, but were not able to capitalize, forcing a shootout. Two Gophers were able to find the back of the net in the shootout, picking up the extra conference point. Goaltender Sanni Ahola (Helsinki, Finland) had a terrific game in net, allowing one goal on 27 shots faced. Ahola posted a .77 goals against average and a .967 save percentage in 65 minutes played. With the tie against the Gophers, Ahola has a 7-1-1 record this season across 9 games played for the Huskies. This week, Ahola has helped the Huskies take down No. 1 Ohio State and force a shootout against No. 3 Minnesota.
