OMAHA, Neb. – No. 15 St. Cloud State Men's Hockey (9-5-2, 7-0-1 NCHC) finished its weekend series with Omaha (9-5-2, 3-4-1 NCHC) with a 2-2 tie on Saturday night at Baxter Arena in Omaha, Neb. The Huskies fell behind 2-1 but clawed back thanks to a late second period goal from fifth-year forward Kyler Kupka (Camrose, Alberta).
Freshman goaltender Isak Posch (Umea, Sweden) made his first career start in goal and made 31 saves to earn the tie.
Sophomore forward Grant Ahcan (Savage, Minn.) got the scoring started early on as he finished off a Husky rush with a nifty play in front of the net for his second score of the season at the 5:06 mark of the first period. Junior defenseman Jack Peart (Grand Rapids, Minn.) and freshman forward Tyson Gross (Calgary, Alberta) recorded assists on the tally.
Omaha took the lead following a late goal in the first and another score midway through the second, as Kirby Proctor and Ty Mueller scored unassisted goals. Despite being outshot 11-7 in the second frame, the Huskies stayed resilient and pushed back late in the period, where Kupka scored on a breakaway to tie the score at 17:29 of the second period.
Neither Omaha or St. Cloud State found the back of the net in the third or overtime periods, leading to a shootout where the Mavericks won 1-0.
