
St. Cloud State Women's Basketball Comes Up Short Against MSU Moorhead

Huskies fall 55-20
MOORHEAD, Minn. - The St. Cloud State women's basketball team has dropped three of their last four matchups after a close one with MSU Moorhead at the Nemzek Fieldhouse in Moorhead, MN. The Huskies put up a great defensive effort but fell just short on offensive to fall 55-50 to the Dragons. St. Cloud shot .365 from the field but only .176 (3-17) from behind the arc. Three Husky athletes scored in the double-digits with freshman Ashley Sawicki putting up a career high 14 points.
GAME SUMMARY
The Huskies took an early 6-4 lead after Jada Eggebrecht sank a jump shot just outside the paint. MSUM would jump ahead 9-8 until St. Cloud went back up 12-9 with 3:21 left in the first. The Dragons were looking to end the period up 14-12 until Katrina Theis tied it up at 14 to end the period. During the second period, MSU Moorhead never gave up the lead, outscoring the Huskies 16-7 with the period ending 30-21 in favor of the Dragons. St. Cloud struggled on offensive shooting .250 from the field in the second and shot .091 from the three-point in both periods combined.
The Dragon's held the lead until the Huskies went on a 9-0 run midway through the third to tie up the game at 35. St. Cloud would then be stalled on a 12-4 run by MSU Moorhead as the third period ended with the Dragons leading 46-39. The Huskies had a better offensive showing in the third outsourcing MSUM 18-16 shooting .571 from the field. Moorhead would lead by eight thirty seconds into the fourth until St. Cloud rallied back to make it a one-point game, 47-46, thanks to a second chance layup in the paint by Theis with 5:24 left in regulation. With just under a minute left, St. Cloud had the chance to take over the lead, but Sawicki's shot fell just short and Moorhead hit a three to make it 54-50 with 30 seconds left. The Huskies fouled looking to make a play but just couldn't find anything and fell 55-50 for the second game of the weekend.

The Huskies will return home to Halenbeck Hall for their last full weekend of home matchups before ending the season with a home-and-home. St. Cloud will host Minot State Friday, Feb. 10 and UMary Saturday, Feb. 11.
