
St. Cloud State Women’s Soccer Closes Nonconference with UMD, MSUM

SCSU travels to UMD on Friday, hosts MSUM on Sunday
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Women's Soccer will close nonconference play this weekend with a pair of contests NSIC opponents. The Huskies will first travel to Duluth to face Minnesota Duluth on Friday, Sept. 8 before returning home for its home opener on Sunday, Sept. 10 against Minnesota State Moorhead. Friday's game is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m. CT, while Sunday's start is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. CT.

SERIES HISTORY
The Huskies will face off against the Bulldogs for the 39th time and the Dragons for the 30th time this weekend, marking the first and third, respectively, most matchups against an opponent in program history. St. Cloud State is 11-19-8 all-time against Minnesota Duluth and 27-0-2 all-time against MSU Moorhead. Last season, the Huskies went a combined 3-0 against the two rivals, beating Minnesota Duluth, 4-1, on Sept. 2 and 2-0 on Oct. 27, and MSU Moorhead 3-0, on Oct. 23. All three games were played at Husky Stadium.
SCSU has won five consecutive matches against Minnesota Duluth dating back to Sept. 9, 2018.
THREE-POINT OPENING WEEKEND
St. Cloud State opened the 2023 season with a 1-0 road win over Michigan Tech on August 31 following junior forward Ariel Hawkey's (Graham, Wis.) first career goal in the ninth minute of the first half. Sophomore forward Ellie Primerano (Saint Joseph, Mich.) recorded the assist on the goal.
With the win, St. Cloud State improved to 2-5-2 all-time against Michigan Tech, with its last win coming on Sept. 3, 2017, a 1-0 win in St. Cloud. The season-opening victory marked the 13th time in program history SCSU has opened its season with a victory and the first since a 3-0 win over Northern Michigan on Sept. 1 to open the 2017 season.
HAWKEY RECORDS FIRST CAREER GOAL
In the win over Michigan Tech, junior forward Ariel Hawkey (Graham, Wis.) scored her first career goal in her 37th career game. In addition to being her first career goal, Hawkey recorded her first career game-winning goal.

St. Cloud State ranked No. 8 in the United Soccer Coaches regional poll on Sept. 5 following its season-opening win over Michigan Tech. Minnesota State Mankato (1-0-1) came in ranked first, followed by Augustana (2-0-0), Central Missouri (1-1-0), Central Oklahoma (0-0-2), Emporia State (0-0-2), Bemidji State (0-0-2) and Fort Hays State (1-0-0).

Five Huskies made their collegiate debut and seven made their SCSU debut in the season opener against Michigan Tech. Freshman midfielder Cady Compton (Ankeny, Iowa), freshman forward Zoey Fanter (Norwalk, Iowa), freshman defender Grace Olson (West Des Moines, Iowa), freshman defender Ana Spaine (Wets Des Moines, Iowa) and Linsey Trapino (Verona, Wis.) all made their collegiate debuts. Sophomore defender Ella Clow (Minneapolis, Minn.) and junior forward Krysten Schuster (Beamsville, Ontario) made their Husky debuts after transferring from St. Thomas and Drury, respectively.

The 2023 season will serve as the 30th season of St. Cloud State Women's Soccer, with its inaugural campaign kicking off in 1994. The Huskies have recorded 10 or more wins in six seasons, including most recently in 2019 under head coach Gretta Macdonald when SCSU went 12-5-3 and advanced to the second round of the NSIC Tournament. In 30 seasons, SCSU is 214-242-61 overall, including a 114-92-33 (.546) mark in St. Cloud and a 77-62-25 (.546) record at Husky Stadium, which opened in 2004 and is affectionally known as "Husky Heaven" by the team.
GOAL PRODUCTION RETURNS
St. Cloud State returns 71.4 percent (15-of-21) of its goal production from the 2022 season, as fifth-year senior forward Jenna Dominguez (Geneva, Ill.), redshirt junior midfielder Gracie Parsons (Omaha, Neb.) and sophomore midfielder Jada Dachtler (Iowa City, Iowa) all return to the pitch for the Huskies. Dominguez led the way for the Huskies in 2022, scoring a career-best eight goals while Parsons logged four goals and Dachtler had one in her debut season for SCSU.
DOMINGUEZ ON RECORD BOOK WATCH
Fifth-year senior Jenna Dominguez (Geneva, Ill.) will get her final chance to further etch her name in the SCSU record book in her final season donning the red and black for SCSU. The 2019 All-NSIC Honorable Mention honoree already ranks amongst the best offensive players in program history, as she ranks second in career game-winning goals (eight) and 10th in career points (40 points), career goals (15 goals) and career assists (10 assists). Her four game-winning goals in 2019 and three in 2022 also rank second and fifth, respectively, on the all-time single season list.
