2-0 victory marks sixth consecutive win over Minnesota Duluth for SCSU
DULUTH, Minn. – St. Cloud State Women's Soccer (2-1-0, 0-0-0 NSIC) scored two second half goals to beat Minnesota Duluth (0-2-1, 0-0-0 NSIC), 2-0, on Friday evening in Duluth, Minn. The Huskies outshot the Bulldogs 14-1, including an 11-0 mark in shots on goal, led by goal scores from fifth-year forward Jenna Dominguez (Geneva, Ill.) and junior forward Ariel Hawkey (Graham, Wash).
TURNING POINT
In a scoreless first half, St. Cloud State registered five shots and four shots on goal in a 12-minute span between the 28th and 40th minutes of the game. Despite not finding the back of the net, the numerous scoring chances in the attacking third of the field helped SCSU grab momentum and carry it into the second half, where they would score twice. First, Dominguez found the back of the net off a pass from sophomore forward Ellie Primerano (Saint Joseph, Mich.), who was streaking down the left side of the field and found Dominguez off to her right for the score in the 52nd minute. Hawkey would add the second score 15 minutes later in the 67th minute to put the Huskies up 2-0.
TOP HUSKIES
Head Coach Gretta Macdonald
"We are so grateful for the energy our loyal Husky fans brought to an away game environment. It was extra special having the SCSU Volleyball team in the stands cheering us on. Today, we built on our defensive principles and capitalized on transitions. It was a solid non-conference team win. We look forward to the next opportunity to improve together.
UP NEXT
St. Cloud State will return to Husky Stadium for its home-opening match on Sunday when the Huskies host MSU Moorhead at 1:30 p.m. CT. A live stream of the match will be available on the NSIC Network.
