Last Time Out
St. Cloud State hit the road this past weekend as they traveled to Illinois to faceoff against Roosevelt and Illinois Springfield.
Friday's game against Roosevelt was tightly contested throughout the match as neither team were able to score in the first half. The Huskies offense sputtered throughout the match as they could only muster six shots in the game with three landing on goal. Roosevelt broke the tie in the 78th minute as Caco Fernandez scored what would be the game-winning goal. St. Cloud State created offensive opportunities late but were unable to find the equalizer as they suffered their fifth-straight loss. Ramy Atia set a season-high of eight saves in the match.
Sunday's game against Illinois Springfield saw the Huskies get on the board quickly as Eduardo Balduino found the back of the net in the 11th minute for his third goal of the season. The Prairie Stars responded rather quickly as they tied the game in the 16th minute. The Huskies struck again right before half as Owen Wasmund scored his first career goal off an assist from Owen Worsdell. St. Cloud State went into the break leading 2-1. Coming out of the break, neither team was able to draw nylons for the first 25 minutes until ISU tied the game in the 71st minute with a goal from Kevin Herrera. The Huskies dug deep and were able to respond quickly as Balduino intercepted a misplay by ISU and then found Worsdell right outside the box. Worsdell dumped it down to a streaking Philip Caputo who cashed the game-winning goal in the 76th minute. Leading 3-2 in the game, the Huskies ramped up their defense as they held the Prairie Stars scoreless in the final 14 minutes as St. Cloud State snapped their five-game losing streak to secure their eighth win of the season.

GLIAC Standings
Playoff Push
The Huskies come into this weekend having already clinched a spot in the GLIAC Tournament along with the other top five teams in the standings. In the GLIAC Tournament, the top two seeds receive a bye to the semifinals while teams seeded 3-6 will play in the quarterfinals. Seeds three and four will host the quarterfinal games. St. Cloud State controls their own destiny in regard to playoff seeding. While they have an outside chance of earning the number one seed, they are still able to earn the first-round bye with two victories. With a win on Friday against Wisconsin-Parkside, SCSU at worst clinches a home playoff game, whether that be in the quarterfinals or semifinals will be determined by Sunday's outcomes across the league.
The league schedule this week is as follows:
Wednesday, October 30
Saginaw Valley State vs. Davenport
Friday, November 1
Northern Michigan vs. Purdue Northwest
Davenport vs. Roosevelt
St. Cloud State vs. Wisconsin-Parkside
Sunday, November 3
Saginaw Valley State vs. Roosevelt
Northern Michigan vs. Wisconsin-Parkside
St. Cloud State vs. Purdue Northwest
The ideal scenario for the Huskies to clinch a bye is to beat Wisconsin-Parkside on Friday and then Purdue Northwest on Sunday. Saginaw Valley State would need to beat both Roosevelt and Davenport and then those teams would need to tie on Friday when they play each other. If the Huskies lose to Wisconsin-Parkside, they would need to beat Purdue Northwest and then have the Rangers lose to Northern Michigan.
Series History
Friday's game against Wisconsin-Parkside will be the eighth meeting between the teams with the Huskies holding a 2-4-1 record. The teams played earlier this season at Husky Stadium, with St. Cloud State coming out on top.
Eduardo Balduino got the party started for the Huskies on Friday in the 26th minute as he knocked in a goal off his right foot to give St. Cloud State a 1-0 lead. The Huskies held that lead for the remainder of the half, but the Rangers tied the game up early in the second half with a goal in the 49th minute. Despite the quick goal by Parkside, the Huskies responded even quicker as Philip Caputo forced a Parkside handball after firing a shot in the box. Caputo then capitalized on the penalty kick by beating the keeper to give St. Cloud State a 2-1 lead. The teams continued to battle into the 62nd before the Rangers tied the game at 2-2 after executing a free kick that led to a goal by Paco Piscaglia. The game raged on before it was Caputo again who found the back on the net in the 75th minute after being set up by Yuken Harmon and then Balduino to give the Huskies a 3-2 lead. Despite the late lead, Parkside would not go away as they again tied the game with a goal in the 83rd minute by Eduardo Perez. The resilience of St. Cloud State has showed up throughout the entirety of the year and showed almost instantly in the 84th minute. Andrew Holmes dished the ball over to Austin Plumhoff who sent it down to Caputo who scored the game-winning goal for the Huskies. The St. Cloud State defense locked down the Rangers in the final six minutes of play by not allowing a shot. The Huskies came out on top with a 4-3 win for their fourth consecutive victory. Caputo on the night recorded the second most points in a single game in program history with seven and set a new program record for consecutive games with a goal with five.
Sunday's game against Purdue Northwest will be the eighth meeting between the teams with the Huskies holding a 4-3 advantage. St. Cloud State took the matchup between the teams earlier in the season when they played at Husky Stadium.
Mika Folstad put St. Cloud State on the board early in the 6th minute as he knocked in a header deep in the box following passes from Nolan Pratumwon and Owen Worsdell. The Huskies held that lead for the majority of the half before William Gonzalez banged in his first goal of the season in the 42nd minute. Gonzalez was set up from a throw-in from Noah Eklund who threw the ball to Matt Greenland, and he dished it over to Gonzalez to give St. Cloud State a 2-0 lead. Those two goals would be all the scoring in the game as goalkeeper Ramy Atia pitched his first shutout of the season while recording three saves in the Huskies 2-0 victory.
