Holmes captures second All-Conference nod, Gonzalez his first
Bay City, Mich. – Two St. Cloud State Men's Soccer players have earned All-Conference Honors from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), as announced by the league office Thursday afternoon. Senior William Gonzalez and redshirt junior Andrew Holmes were both named an All-GLIAC Honorable Mention. Voting for All-GLIAC is conducted by the head coaches of the league.
With 14 starts on the year and 1328 minutes played, William Gonzalez was a key piece for the Huskies defense at left back. Gonzalez was a disruptor on the backline by intercepting passes and blocking shots. He was also pristine in flipping the field for SCSU by taking those interceptions and dribbling up the field into the attacking zone with great speed. Gonzalez accumulated 10 shots with two landing on goal while logging nine games where he played all 90 minutes.
For the second straight year, Andrew Holmes was named an All-GLIAC Honorable Mention. Holmes started 15 games while playing 1306 minutes in the midfield for the Huskies. A precisionist in the midfield, Holmes was surgical with his passing as he flowed the ball up the field. That passing led to two assists on the year. When an offensive opportunity to strike came about, Holmes made the most of those chance with four of his five total shots landing on goal and scoring one goal on the year. He totaled eight games where he played all 90 minutes throughout the year and ends this season in second place all-time in career games playing 90+ minutes.
