Bay City, Mich.- Four St. Cloud State Men's Soccer players have earned All-Conference Honors from the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), as announced by the league Thursday afternoon. Senior Philip Caputo was named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Year as well as being named to the First Team All-GLIAC while seniors Noah Eklund and Nolan Pratumwon were named to Second Team All-GLIAC. Redshirt-sophomore Andrew Holmes was named as an All-GLIAC Honorable Mention. In addition, Head Coach Sean Holmes was also named GLIAC Coach of the Year following the Huskies historic season.
Â
In what was a historic season for Philip Caputo, he was an offensive juggernaut for St. Cloud State. Leading the conference in points, goals, and shots on goal, very few could contain Caputo in a year where he recorded 32 points stemming from 13 goals and six assists. His desire to win was evident in his play late in games as he scored five game-winning goals, the most in the conference. Caputo's scoring came in bunches as he had three multi-goal games including two hat tricks on the year. He was also named GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week three times, the most of any player in the conference. On a national level, Caputo finished the regular season sixth in points and goals while finishing tied for second in game-winning goals. Throughout the year, Caputo broke multiple single season program records including points, goals, assists, and game-winning goals. He also set multiple program records including consecutive games with a goal (5), points in a single game (9), and assists in a single game (3). This is the third season where Caputo has earned All-Conference honors and the first season where he has landed on the First Team.
Â
Making 17 starts on the year and logging 1463 minutes, Noah Eklund was an integral part of the St. Cloud State defense all season. Eklund thwarted opposing offenses this season with his defensive awareness and anticipation, disruption of passes, and shot blocking. Eklund also totaled four points off a goal and two assists. He was named GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week one time this season. His 1463 minutes played were the fourth most in program history. This is the second All-Conference honors for Eklund as he earned his first recognition as an All-Conference Honorable Mention in 2021.
Â
Nolan Pratumwon was a key component in the Huskies midfield all season with 16 stars and 1284 minutes played. Using his great speed, Pratumwon was excellent in getting in passing lanes and then pushing the ball up field to set up offensive opportunities. The passing of Pratumwon was phenomenal all season as he consistently put pressure on defenses with his precise placement of passes, leading to three assists on the season. This season, Pratumwon became the all-time program leader in minutes played as he has totaled 4542 minutes in his career. This is the second All-Conference nod in Pratumwon's career as he was recognized as an All-Conference Honorable Mention in 2022.
Â
Another versatile midfielder for the Huskies, Andrew Holmes was an ironman for St. Cloud State with 18 starts and setting a new single season record for minutes played with 1526. His precision in the midfield was beneficiary towards the offense and defense. Tallying four assists on the year, Holmes was a consistent threat in setting up teammates for offensive opportunities. Defensively he consistently forced opponents to the outside of the field with his ball pressure. Holmes also scored one goal this season and totaled six points on the year. This is the first All-Conference nod in Holmes' career.
Â
Entering his fifth season with St. Cloud State, Head Coach Sean Holmes and the Huskies had a breakout year with their best season in program history. St. Cloud State tripled their win total from 2023 as they went from three wins to nine and finished with an overall record of 9-8-1 to finish third in the GLIAC. Highlighted by a seven-game winning streak, the Huskies earned their first ever national ranking on October 8th as they were ranked No. 13 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll. Under Holmes' guidance, St. Cloud State was an offensive machine this season as they led the conference in total points (113), goals (32), and assists (49). The Huskies also produced the most Player of the Week honorees in the conference with seven. SCSU reached the postseason for the third consecutive season and hosted their second straight home playoff game.
