Huskies drop series opener, 5-2
MINNEAPOLIS – No. 10/9 St. Cloud State Women's Hockey (8-5-2, 4-5-2 Western Collegiate Hockey Association) fell to No. 3 Minnesota, 5-2 on Friday evening at Ridder Arena in Minneapolis to open the team's home-and-home series. Four of the game's seven goals came on the power play with the Huskies converting two of their five opportunities and UMN cashing in on two of their three power plays.
After giving up a goal just 23 seconds into the game, the Huskies battled back, tying the game at one with just under five minutes left in the first period. The Huskies took advantage of its power play opportunity when fifth year forward Abby Promersberger (Fargo, N.D.) was able to redirect senior defender Taylor Larson's (Nisswa, Minn.) shot into the back of the net.
The Gophers (11-3-1, 7-3-1 WCHA) answered with a pair of goals, one with just over three minutes left in the first and the other, a power play goal just over three minutes into the second period, to take a 3-1 lead. SCSU brought the game within one goal again after fifth year forward Ally Qualley (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) netted a powerplay goal with three minutes left in the second period.
In the final period, Minnesota's Abbey Murphy added two goals, including an empty netter to put the game away and secure a hat trick.

The Huskies wrap up their second home-and-home series of the season on Saturday when No. 3 Minnesota travels to St. Cloud and the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center on Saturday. - Qualley scored her first goal as a Husky in the second period.
- Larson, junior forward Avery Farrell (Rogers, Minn.), fifth year forward Brieja Parent (Forest Lake, Minn.) and senior defender Dayle Ross (Spirit River, Alberta) all tallied assists.
- Fifth year forward Emma Gentry (Alpena, Mich.) won a game-high 16 draws and went an impressive 16-9 in the circle.
- Senior defender Grace Wolfe (Owatonna, Minn.) blocked a game-high four shots.
- SCSU falls to 4-107-4 all-time against Minnesota and remains winless (0-60-2) against the Gophers at Ridder Arena.
- The Huskies led the game in saves (29-25). UMN led in shots (34-27) and faceoff wins (34-26). Both teams blocked 12 shots.
- SCSU's penalty kill was 1-for-3 and powerplay went 2-for-5.
- Promersberger scored her third goal of the season.
- Qualley scored her first goal of the season and first in a Huskies sweater. It was her 13th career goal.
- Larson recorded her fifth assist of the season and 15th point of her career.
- Farrell tallied her fifth point of the season.
- Parent posted her third assist of the season.
- Ross tallied her sixth assist and eighth point of the season. She now owns the team lead in assists this season and is tied for the team lead in points with sophomore forward Greta Henderson (Regina, Saskatchewan).
- Henderson skated in her 45th career game.
- Gentry led the game in faceoff wins, posting a season-high 16.
- Wolfe led the game with four blocked shots.
- Freshman goaltender Emilia Kyrkkö (Nokia, Finland) made 29 saves in her 10th career appearance.
