Bangs Earns Bronze on Day One at NSIC Championships

Bangs finishes third in 200-yard IM, Huskies in third place after day one
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – St. Cloud State Women's Swim & Dive sits in third place after the first day of competition at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Championships on Wednesday in Sioux Falls, S.D. Junior Meredith Bangs (Muskego, Wis.) recorded the best finish of opening day for the Huskies, earning a bronze medal by finishing third in the 200-yard IM.

Augustana took the early lead with 244.5 points after the first day of competition, while Minnesota State (205.5) and St. Cloud State (179) is in second and third place respectively. Sioux Falls is currently in fourth place with 89 points while Concordia St. Paul is in fifth place with 115 points.

Day two of the championships continue tomorrow at the Midco Aquatic Center in Sioux Falls. Swimming prelims will take place at 10:00 a.m. CT and finals at 5:30 p.m. CT. Diving begins on Thursday with prelims at 1:00 p.m. CT and finals at 5:30 p.m. CT.

- Bangs earned a third-place finish in the 200-yard IM with a 2:05.78. Bangs was very close to a runner-up finish as she finished just behind Augustana's Meesha Montgomery at 2:05.58.
- Junior Ruthie Lucht (Tempe, Ariz.) finished fourth in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:25.34.
- The 200-yard relay team narrowly missed a top-three podium finish with a fourth-place finish at 1:45.66.
