No. 14/16 Colorado College Takes Series Finale over No. 16/15 St. Cloud State Men’s Hockey

Tigers win 5-3, Kupka, Salquist and Gross score for the Huskies
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – No. 16/15 St. Cloud State Men's Hockey (12-9-5, 8-4-4 NCHC) dropped its series finale with No. 14/16 Colorado College (16-9-1, 10-6-0 NCHC), 5-3, on Saturday night at Ed Robson Arena in Colorado Springs, Colo. The loss snapped an 18-game unbeaten streak dating back to 2013 for the Huskies against the Tigers in Colorado Springs.
Colorado College opened a 2-0 lead following a score at the 4:06 mark of the second period, but the Huskies quickly responded with a power play goal from junior forward Mason Salquist (Grand Forks, N.D.) at the 6:48 mark of the period. Salquist beat the Tiger netminder on a weakside shot after a beautiful backdoor feed from fifth-year forward Zach Okabe (Okotoks, Alberta) to make the score 2-1.
After the second intermission, the Tigers opened up the game with back-to-back goals and the 7:37 and 11:35 marks of the period to open a three-goal lead at 4-1. Fifth-year forward Kyler Kupka (Camrose, Alberta) scored his second goal of the weekend with a power play score, but the Huskies would never get closer, as Colorado College added an empty net goal later in the period. Freshman forward Tyson Gross (Calgary, Alberta) would add a score in the final minute of play to make the score 5-3.

- Sophomore forward Adam Ingram (West St. Paul, Manitoba) recorded a pair of assists in the game.
- Kupka netted his 11th goal of the season with a third period power play score.
- Salquist scored his fourth goal and first power play goal of the season.
- With the loss, St. Cloud State moves to 66-52-9 all-time against Colorado College and 38-25-3 against the Tigers in Colorado Springs.
- The loss snaps the Huskies' 18-game (17-0-1) unbeaten streak against Colorado College in Colorado Springs, dating back to Feb. 23, 2013. SCSU's last loss in Colorado Springs was Feb. 22, 2013, a 4-3 loss in Colorado Springs.
- SCSU went 2-of-3 on the power play to improve to 21.3 percent (20-of-94) on the man advantage this season.
- Senior forward Joe Molenaar (Minnetonka, Minn.) played in his 100th career game.
- Ingram had two assists in the game to move his season total to 15, matching his career-best mark from his freshman campaign. His two assists are a season-high and marks the fourth time in his career he has dished out two or more assists.
- Kupka scored his 11th goal of the season to set a new career-best for goals in a season, surpassing his previous best mark of 10 from 2022-23. The score was his third power play goal of the season and 29th career goal.
- Salquist recorded his fourth goal of the season to post a new career-best mark for goals in a season. His score in the second period was his first career power play goal and 10th career goal.
- Gross scored his second goal and 10th point of the season.
- Fifth-year defenseman Dylan Anhorn (Calgary, Alberta) recorded his 20th assist of the season to match his career-high from last season. His third period assist was his 85th career point.
- Okabe, freshman defenseman Tynan Ewart (Duncan, British Columbia) and junior defenseman Josh Luedtke (Minnetonka, Minn.) all recorded assists in the game.
