Huskies record first sweep of the season, down Minnesota Crookston in straight sets
CROOKSTON, Minn. – No. 12 St. Cloud State Volleyball (7-2, 2-0 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) swept Minnesota Crookston in straight sets (25-17, 25-12, 25-13) on Saturday afternoon at Lysaker Gymnasium in Crookston.
It was the first home and Northern Sun match for the Golden Eagles (3-6, 0-1 NSIC) who were limited to just .059 hitting. UMC were unable to send down more than nine kills in any set, while the Huskies sent down at least 13 in each.
SCSU led the match in points (57-31), kills (44-25), service aces (7-1), blocks (6-5), assists (40-24) and digs (50-35).
TOP HUSKIES
"I thought we did a really good job defensively today, controlling most of Crookston's hitters at the net. We served fairly aggressive, blocked a few balls and were in system most of the afternoon. That is a very scrappy Crookston team who digs lot of balls and is one of the best defensive teams in the conference in the back row."
"I thought Sam Zimmerman and Hannah Bruskiewicz were very efficient offensively, combining for 12 kills on 20 swings – if your middles and right sides can do that, you're going to have a lot of success. Keely [Kurschner] was very solid in the back again, Braya [LaPlant] and Emma [Berran] did a good job with set distribution. Overall, it was a solid win for Huskies."
NOTABLES
The Huskies return home on Tuesday to play No. 10 Concordia-St. Paul. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. CT from Halenbeck Hall in St. Cloud. Links to each coverage option will be available on the SCSU Volleyball schedule page.
