Foley sets new career points and career kills marks, Huskies sweep CSP for first time since 1993
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – No. 12 St. Cloud State Volleyball (8-2, 3-0 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) swept No. 9 Concordia-St. Paul (30-28, 25-19, 25-22) on Tuesday afternoon at Halenbeck Hall in St. Cloud. It was the first time since 1993 that SCSU Volleyball swept the Golden Bears.
Coming into the match, fifth year outside hitter Kenzie Foley (Sergeant Bluff, Iowa) needed just seven points and 13 kills to take down the pair of records. She broke the program's all-time points record when she sent down a kill for the final point of the back-and-forth 30-28 first set that saw 14 ties and seven lead changes. It was the 1,861st point of Foley's illustrious career and upended the previous record, which had been held for 36 years by SCSU Hall of Famer and volleyball legend, Kathy Davis.
Foley took down the career kills record in the third set passing the previous record of 1,657, which was set by her former teammate and three-time All-American, Linsey Rachel who played for the Huskies from 2018-2022.
Inefficient offense hampered CSP (6-4, 1-1 NSIC) throughout the night, as they hit just .193 for the match after committing 22 attacking errors and eight service errors. SCSU hit .295 and only committed 13 attacking errors and seven service errors.
TOP HUSKIES
"It was a really fun night for Huskies Volleyball. I am very happy with the way our team made great decisions offensively and I thought our defense was scrappy enough and did a good job extending enough for rallies which frustrated them [CSP] into some hitting errors."
"We had runs where we served well and got them out of system, and once again, our middles – Hannah [Bruskiewicz] and Ella [Thompson] and Sam [Zimmerman] on the right side were extremely effective scoring. Sam [Zimmerman] had a breakout night offensively for us. She has been a fantastic teammate and is learning the nuances of playing a different position in the front row – to have 10 kills on 15 swings is fantastic."
"And obviously, Kenzie Foley continued a great start to the season, earning points from anywhere on the floor when she's attacking. She is a prolific offensive weapon, and I'm sure that teams spend time game planning against her and trying to devise ways to limit her scoring abilities. I think it really helps her that we have some other great offensive weapons this year to help alleviate some of that pressure on Kenzie, and she continues to do well for us in the back row as well and in serve-receive."
