Gross and Gardner find the back of the net for Huskies
DULUTH, Minn. – No. 10 St. Cloud State Men's Hockey (11-9-0, 4-6-0 NCHC) fell in the series finale to Minnesota Duluth (8-11-1, 4-6-0 NCHC), 5-2, on Saturday night at AMSOIL Arena in Duluth. The Huskies cut a 3-0 second period deficit to 3-2 but couldn't get any closer as the Bulldogs scored the final two goals to secure the series sweep.
SCSU led the shots on goal in the first period 8-7, but Minnesota found the back of the net first, scoring at the 12:36 mark on a Jason Shaugabay tally that was recorded right after a power play expired.
The second period saw five goals scored with UMD extending their lead to 3-0 before the Huskies scored two straight to cut the lead to one goal and then a UMD power play tally to make the score 4-2. Sophomore forward Daimon Gardner (Eagle Lake, Ontario) and sophomore forward Tyson Gross (Calgary, Alberta) were the goal scorers for the Huskies, netting their third and seventh goals of the season, respectively. Gardner's score came 12 seconds after UMD scored while Gross netted his third power play goal of the season. Late in the period, SCSU put itself in a 5-on-3 situation after taking two penalties in a eight second span. The Huskie skilled off the first penalty but was unable to finish the kill on the second penalty as Max Plante's power play goal at 17:00 made the score 4-2.
UMD scored the only goal of the third period, an even strength goal at 4:36 to close the scoring at 5-2.

- Gardner found the back of the net for the third time this season with his second period tally. He has now recorded six points this season, matching his production from his freshman campaign at Clarkson (1g/5a).
- Burnevik had the primary assist on Gross' goal to record the eighth assist of his season and move into the team lead in points at 17 (9g/8a).
- Senior forward Mason Salquist (Grand Forks, N.D.) went 10-7 in the faceoff dot, marking the seventh consecutive game and team-leading 13th time this season he has won 10 faceoffs.
