
No. 1 Huskies Capture Eight Titles at North Country Invite

St. Cloud State places 13 wrestlers
St. Cloud, Minn.- No. 1 St. Cloud State Wrestling competed in the North Country Invite this afternoon. The Huskies amassed eight titles with 13 wrestlers placing in the event.

At 141, Brandon Eusebio captured two bonus point wins on his way to earning a title. Eusebio won by fall in the quarterfinals and then by major decision to take to the championship. He faced off against teammate Aoci Bernard where he won 2-0 to take first place.

Nolan Throne received a quarterfinal bye at the 149 class to advance to the semifinals. Throne won his two matches by tech fall to take the title. In the championship, he defeated Jackson Marr of Concordia-Moorhead 19-3.

At 157, Colton Bornholdt picked up two tech falls on his way to a title. Bornholdt reached the championship round after tech falling Aidan Ruddy 19-3 and then Kris Castro 22-5. To win the title, Bornholdt defeated Colton Sund of Wisconsin-Eau Claire 12-6.

Wrestling at 165, Derek Johnson won all three of his bouts in bonus point fashion to take first place. In the quarterfinals, Johnson shutout Jan Hernandez-Soto 18-0 for the tech fall and then tallied another shutout, this time 11-0 against Logan Thorsten to advance to the finals. He would pick up a second tech fall with a 19-3 win against Brady Brewick of Wisconsin-Eau Claire to win the invite.

At 174, James Burks took the title while earning one bonus point victory. Burks defeated Brandon Meister of Wisconsin-Eau Claire 21-17 in the quarterfinals and then pinned Zach Pribyl of Concordia-Moorhead to advance to the finals. In the championship round, he defeated Tristan Drier of Wisconsin-Eau Claire 3-2.

Tyson Meyer came away with two bonus point wins on his way to earning a title at 184. Meyer defeated Brody Duke of Concordia-Moorhead 16-0 and then Zak McPhee of Wisconsin-Eau Claire 5-2 to advance to the finals. The championship round saw Meyer pin Dante Novembre of Concordia-Moorhead to take the title.

Wrestling at 197, Brendan Lockart captured two wins by fall on his way to taking the title. Lockart would pin Connor Chloupek of Concordia-Moorhead and then D.J. Myles of St. Johns to reach the finals. Lockart would face off against teammate Nathan Fury where he won by medical forfeit.

Jadon Mims was the final Husky to earn a title. At 285, Mims beat Sam Dioszeghy of Concordia-Moorhead 14-2 in the quarterfinals and then picked up a 22-7 tech fall against Mason Swason of Concordia-Moorhead. Mims faced off against Aidan Wayne in the championship round where he won by medical forfeit.

Other Huskies to place in the invite include Aoci Bernard (2nd, 141), Vance Barz (6th, 149), Landyn Crance (4th, 149), Nathan Fury (2nd, 197), and Donnie Hidden (4th, 285).
