The Minnesota State Moorhead Dragons come into this matchup with a 12-8 record and a 7-7 mark in conference play. The Dragons have lost six of their past eight games, but split their matchups this past weekend with a win against Augustana and a loss against Wayne State. Coming into this season, MSU was picked to finish second in the NSIC following a 2023-24 campaign where they totaled a 25-6 record with a 18-4 mark in conference play leading to a third place finish in the standings. The Dragons were upset in the quarterfinals of the NSIC Tournament after losing to Winona State, but were selected for the NCAA Central Region Tournament. The Dragons took down Pittsburg State in the first round before losing to the eventual National Champions in Minnesota State Manakto.
This season, the Dragons return two of their All-Conference performers from last season in Jacob Beeninga and JaMir Price. Beeninga has not played since December 20 but is averaging 17.7 points per game. Price has only played in six games and recently returned to action January 17 after missing two months. Outside of Beeninga, Logan Kinsey, Carson Johnson, and Jacob Jeninissen also average double-digit points. Kinsey is scoring 14.5 points while shooting 46.3% from the field. He is grabbing 4.9 rebounds per game while recording 1.0 steals per game. Johnson has had a hot streak since Beeninga went down as the freshman is averaging 17.7 points per game. Hailing at 7'1, Jennissen nearly averages a double-double with 11.0 points and 7.8 rebounds while shooting 61.4% from the field.
Head Coach Tim Bergstraser enters his third season with the Dragons in the 2024-25 season. Through two seasons, Bergstraser and the Dragons have reached the NCAA Tournament in back-to-back seasons. He has totaled a 62-21 record in his tenure along with an NSIC Tournament Championship in 2022-23.
