Huskies record 19 top-three finishes on first day of competition

MARQUETTE, Mich. – St. Cloud State Swim & Dive opened the 2025-26 season with 19 top-three finishes on day one of meet at Northern Michigan in Marquette, Mich. The men recorded 12 top-three finishes while the women recorded seven. Both Huskies teams finished the two sessions in second place with the men scoring 596 points and the women scoring 648 points.

The Huskies men swept the podium in the 100-yard backstroke with junior Piotr Kowalczyk (Warsaw, Poland), sophomore Dylan Nelson (Urbandale, Iowa) and junior Reid Tigges (Spencer, Iowa) finishing 1-2-3 at 52.51, 52.76 and 52.99, respectively. Tigges also finished runner-up in the 50-yard freestyle at 20.95.

The SCSU women recorded two runner-up finishes on the day with sophomore Abriella Werner (Soldotna, Alaska) finishing second in the 3-meter dive with 244.50 points and freshman Megan Willenbring (Watkins, Minn.) finishing second in the 50-yard freestyle at 25.23.
