St. Cloud State Women’s Basketball Battle No. 16 Golden Bears on the Road Before Hosting Warriors

Huskies take on No. 16 Concordia-St. Paul and Winona State
St. Cloud, MN. – St. Cloud State Women's Basketball (3-3, 0-1 NSIC) play their first full week of conference games as they travel to St. Paul, MN on Wednesday, December 3 to take on No. 16 Concordia-St. Paul before hosting Winona State on Saturday, December 6. Wednesday's game is set for 7:30 p.m. while Saturday's game is slated for 4:00 p.m. at Halenbeck Hall.

Turnovers Plague Huskies in 110-81 Loss to No. 8 Minnesota State- November 25, 2025
Three minutes into the first quarter, it was the Mavericks who burst out to an early 10-4 lead. A three by Alana Zarneke weathered the early storm as the Huskies stayed within striking distance. The next three minutes saw Mankato start to take control as they extended their lead to 10 points with a 10-3 run to lead 20-10. SCSU's defense picked up over the final few minutes of the quarter and Kristi Kottke scored the final four points of the frame as the Huskies only trailed by five at the end of one. The Mavericks continued their relentless defensive pressure into the second quarter as they grew their lead back up to double-digits. Timely makes by the Huskies were crucial as they did not let go of the rope. Despite 19 turnovers in the first half, SCSU went into halftime trailing 51-38.
Out of the break, Mankato opened the third with a 9-0 run as they quickly grew their lead to 22 points. The rest of the game garnered similar results to the first half as the Mavericks took advantage of the turnover woes by SCSU. St. Cloud State trailed by 16+ points the remainder of the game with their biggest deficit being 29 points. The Huskies would ultimately fall 110-81 in their first conference game of the season.

Huskies Cruise to 101-53 Win Over Alaska Fairbanks- November 29, 2025
St. Cloud State came out on fire as a two-pointer by Jada Eggebrecht gave SCSU a quick 9-0 lead. SCSU continued to pour it on offensively as an 8-2 run gave them a 17-4 lead. The Huskies would shoot 65% from the field in the first quarter as they held a commanding 30-9 lead. Offensive rebounds and assists were the key factors in the first half for St. Cloud State. Grabbing 17 offensive rebounds led to SCSU taking 21 more shots than Alaska Fairbanks in the first half and 18 assists occurred on 20 field goals made. St. Cloud State continued to roll as they led 47-23 at halftime.
The second half saw similar results as the Huskies led by 24+ points the remainder of the game with their biggest lead being 51 points. SCSU ultimately went on to win 101-53 in their home opener. St. Cloud State finished two assists shy of a team record (34), as they totaled 32 assists in the game. They relentlessly attacked the offensive glass with 28 offensive rebounds leading to 23 second chance points. The 101 points they scored was also the most in a game since December 3 2016 where they scored 111 against Bemidji State.

Turnovers Plague Huskies in 55-72 Loss to Golden Bears- January 8, 2025
CSP got off to a fast start as they led 8-2 in the first three minutes of the game. The Huskies started to then find their offensive footing as a three by Jada Eggebrecht capped off an 8-2 run of their own as the game would be tied 10-10. The teams battled the rest of the quarter as the Huskies trailed 14-16 at the end of the first quarter after Alyssa Stamer sunk a jumper with six seconds left. Through the first five minutes of the second quarter, neither team held more than a four-point lead. Rachel Kottke gave SCSU their first lead of the game as she cashed a three to put the Huskies up 25-24 with 4:52 left in the half. The teams traded leads over the next two minutes as the Golden Bears led by a single point after a jumper by Lydia Haack. From that point, CSP started to seize control of the game as they closed the half on an 11-2 run to lead 37-29 at the break.
The momentum continued in favor of the Golden Bears at the start of the second half as back-to-back threes extended their lead to 14 and led to a timeout by SCSU. CSP's defense stifled St. Cloud State's offense as they forced 15 turnovers in the second half while the Huskies shot 30% from the field. The Golden Bears led by 12+ points the rest of the game as they went on to defeat St. Cloud State 72-55.

Huskies Season Ends at the Pentagon, Fall 76-60 to No. 11 Concordia-St. Paul in NSIC Quarterfinals- March 1, 2025
SCSU got off to a strong start in the game as a three-pointer by Alana Zarneke gave them a 7-2 lead. The Golden Bears responded with their own 7-2 run as the game would be tied at 9 points apiece. From that moment, CSP built up a double-digit lead with a 15-4 run as they now led 24-13 with 2:51 left in the quarter. The teams traded buckets in the final stretch of the frame before Ashley Schuelke made a buzzer beating three to give CSP a 29-15 lead. The momentum for Concordia maintained into the second quarter as they opened on an 8-2 run to push the lead up to 20 points. The Huskies ultimately went into halftime trailing 43-24.
The second half saw similar results as SCSU trailed by 15+ the remainder of the game. The Huskies were unable to make a string of stops and scores to cut into the deficit as they shot 35% from the field and 25% from three while CSP shot 49.1% from the field and 45% from three. Through the first five minutes of the game, Winona State narrowly held a 9-6 advantage after Olivia Gamoke made a three-pointer to break the tie. St. Cloud State started to take control as they held the Warriors scoreless over the next four minutes to now lead 15-9 after a 9-0. The Huskies added some fireworks to the end of the first quarter as Paige Lambe swished a turn around jumper to beat the buzzer. St. Cloud State would lead 17-11 after the buzzer beater by Lambe. The Huskies held a steady lead throughout most of the second quarter, but free throws by Winona State cut SCSU's lead down to three points. With 2:16 left in the second quarter, scored the next four points as the lead went back up to seven. Kylan Gerads expanded that lead to nine following an offensive rebound and putback. The Huskies would lead 29-20 going into halftime after holding Winona State to a mere 19% from the field in the half.

Scouting Concordia-St. Paul
The Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears come into this matchup with a 4-2 record with wins against Missouri Western, Truman State, Maryville, and Michigan Tech. CSP's two losses have come against No. 4 Fort Hays State and Winona State. The Golden Bears are coming off a 2024-25 season where they tallied a 29-3 record and a 20-2 mark in conference play to finish atop the NSIC. CSP rolled through the NSIC Tournament to earn the auto-bid into the NCAA Tournament. Their season would come to a close as they fell to Southwest Minnesota State in the first round. Concordia-St. Paul came into this season projected to finish second in the NSIC and are currently ranked No. 16 in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Poll.
The offseason saw CSP graduate one of their two All-Conference Honorees in Lindsey Becher. Becher was First Team All-NSIC a season ago while also being named NSIC Defensive Player of the Year. Lydia Haack, who also earned First Team All-NSIC last season, returns after averaging 16.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 4.5 assists.
Through six games this year, Haack is averaging 17.2 points, 6.5 boards, 8.0 assists, and 3.2 steals. She is shooting 38.7% from the field and 40.0% from three. CSP is being led by Lauren Wilson who is averaging a double-double with 25.2 points and 11.7 rebounds along with 2.4 stocks. She is shooting 50% from the field.
Head Coach Amanda Johnson enters her 11th season with Concordia-St. Paul in 2025-26. Johnson has compiled a 170-98 record in her tenure. She was named NSIC Coach of the Year last season with CSP winning the NSIC regular season and tournament title.
Scouting Winona State
The Winona State Warriors come into this game holding a 4-3 record with wins over Southeastern Oklahoma State, Truman State, Concordia-St. Paul, and Michigan Tech. Winona State is coming off an 11-17 record with a 7-15 mark in conference play to finish 13th in the NSIC last season. The Warriors did not reach the NSIC Tournament. This season, Winona State was projected to finish 12th in the conference.
The offseason saw Winona State graduate their lone All-Conference honoree in Olivia Gamoke who earned Second Team All-NSIC last season. The Warriors do return their other top two scorers in Hailey Markworth and Vivica Bretton. Markworth was second on the team in scoring with 11.2 points per game. Bretton averaged 9.9 points while leading the team in rebounding with 5.6 per game.
Through seven games, Markworth leads the Warriors in scoring, rebounding, and steals with 12.6 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.4 assists. She also is shooting 50.7% from the field. Breah Golden and Sadie Jarmolowicz are the only other Warriors at 9+ points per game with 9.4 and 9.3 ppg respectively.
Head Coach Ana Wurtz enters her fourth season with the Warriors in the 2025-26 season. Wurtz has totaled a 36-55 record during her tenure with Winona State.

The Warriors do return their other top two scorers in Hailey Markworth and Vivica Bretton. Markworth was second on the team in scoring with 11.2 points per game. Bretton averaged 9.9 points while leading the team in rebounding with 5.6 per game.
Through seven games, Markworth leads the Warriors in scoring, rebounding, and steals with 12.6 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.4 assists. She also is shooting 50.7% from the field. Breah Golden and Sadie Jarmolowicz are the only other Warriors at 9+ points per game with 9.4 and 9.3 ppg respectively.
Head Coach Ana Wurtz enters her fourth season with the Warriors in the 2025-26 season. Wurtz has totaled a 36-55 record during her tenure with Winona State.
Winona State will take on No. 5 Minnesota State on Thursday before facing the Huskies on Saturday.
