Eggebrecht captures third All-Conference nod, Zarneke’s first
Burnsville, Minn.- St. Cloud State Women's Basketball guards of junior Jada Eggebrecht and sophomore Alana Zarneke earned All-Conference Honors from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) as announced by the league office Thursday. Both Eggebrecht and Zarneke were named to the Second Team All-NSIC. The duo marks the ninth straight season where multiple Huskies captured All-Conference Honors.
Â
In her junior campaign with St. Cloud State, Jada Eggebrecht earned her third consecutive All-Conference recognition after leading the Huskies in scoring with 13.2 points per game while shooting 41.3% from the field, 35.8% from three, and 94.3% from the free throw line. The three level scoring prowess of Eggebrecht was a nightly threat for opposing defenses in part to her ability to breakdown her defender and get to the rim, knock down a fall-away mid-range, or cash a pull-up three. This season saw Eggebrecht take strides as a rebounder and distributor as she averaged career-highs of 3.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists. The Phillips, Wis. native also cemented herself into Huskies history on multiple occasions throughout the year as she became the 36th Husky to score 1,000 career points thanks to a 26 points performance on January 29 against Bemidji State. That night saw the junior shoot 11/16 from the field and splash two of her three three-pointers. She also broke into the top 10 in career three-pointers made on January 18 against Minnesota State. Eggebrecht currently has 1,082 career points and is 8th all-time in three-pointers made with 134.
Â
In her second season with the Huskies, Alana Zarneke took a step forward following her freshman season as her scoring jumped from 4.6 points per game to 11.2. The sharpshooting guard blazed the nets by shooting 40.1% from the field, 38.4% from three, and 83% from the free throw line. Zarneke's quickness off the ball freed herself open on a consistent basis leading to catch and shoot opportunities. She made defenses pay by not quickly closing out to her by cashing a team-high 1.8 threes per game. When teams ran her off the three-point line, Zarneke excelled in making pull-up midrange shots off the dribble. The all-around game of Zarneke also took a major leap forward as her rebounding jumped from 1.4 per game in her freshman season to 4.7 while her assists grew from 0.6 to 2.4. The Appleton, Wis. native was also a crucial part of the SCSU defense with a team-high of 2.1 stocks per game. Her quick hands on the ball led to a team-high of 1.4 steals and her length as a weakside defender translated to 0.7 blocks per game, the second most on the team. Against Minnesota Duluth on January 11, Zarneke had a career game as she registered her first career double-double with career-highs of 25 points and 13 rebounds. She was on fire that game as she shot 7/13 from the field, 3/6 from three, and 8/9 from the free throw line. The sophomore was also lockdown defensively in that game with four stocks and a career-high of three blocks.

Eggebrecht, Zarneke, and the rest of the Huskies will continue postseason play as they faceoff against the one seed Concordia-St. Paul on Saturday, March 1 at the Sanford Pentagon.
