Donahue and Reinke tabbed as NSIC Athletes to Watch
BURNSVILLE, Minn. – St. Cloud State Track & Field has been picked to finish 14th in the 2024-25 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Outdoor Track & Field Preseason Coaches' Poll as announced by the league office on Friday. Sophomore distance runner Alena Donahue (West Salem, Wis.) and sophomore thrower Savannah Reinke (Malta Bend, Mo.) were named the preseason athletes to watch by the NSIC.
Head coach Gabrielle Brown is in the midst her second season as SCSU's head Track & Field/Cross Country coach in 2024-25. A three-time All-American hurdler at Hamline, Brown joined St. Cloud State after spending three seasons as an assistant coach at Macalester. She is the first Black female head coach in the history of St. Cloud State Athletics.
"I am looking forward to our young talented group to piece it all together this season," said Brown.
Donahue, the Huskies track athlete to watch, looks to build off her strong cross country and indoor track seasons in which she set many new personal bests. In the fall, she lowered her 5k time by nine seconds and her 6k time by 59 seconds from her freshman season. During the indoor season, she ran 19 seconds faster in the mile, 29 seconds faster in the 3,000 meters and 1:30 faster in the 5,000 meters compared to her freshman season. Last outdoor season she competed in the 5,000 once and the 3,000 steeplechase three times.
"Alena has incrementally gotten stronger and faster since the beginning of the season," said Brown, "Her mental toughness and physical preparation are good indicators to the success we are looking forward to her having this outdoor season."
Reinke, the Huskies field athlete to watch, opened her 2025 outdoor season by competing in the discus throw, hammer throw and javelin throw at the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge on March 14-15. It was her first time competing in the hammer throw. Last outdoor season she competed in shot put, discus throw and javelin throw.
"Savannah has persevered to get back on the field ever since her injury early last year," said Brown, "We feel confident that with her experience and effort she will be a notable contributor right away for this outdoor season."
