Last Time Out
The Huskies took to the pitch last Wednesday as they faced off against No. 10 Quincy at Husky Stadium.
Fresh off their recent anointment of a top ten ranking via the United Soccer Coaches Poll, the #10 Quincy Hawks struck first in the second minute of the game. Leo Cann split a pair of Huskies defenders and dropped the ball off to Carlos Moreno Henao who scored the first goal of the game. The Huskies started to find their offensive flow 10 minutes later as they tacked on a few shots with one landing goal, but neither finding the mesh. Continuing to push tempo, SCSU worked towards a pair of corner kicks in the 20th minute. Matteo Bosch stepped up to take the kick and delivered a dime into the box. Defensemen Jalen Joshua Rueter used his 6'4 frame to attack the ball which he knocked in with his head to tie the game. Each team ended the half by tacking on a few shots on goal, but nothing came to fruition as the teams went into halftime tied 1-1.
Coming out of the break, play resembled the later part of the first half. Both teams' defenses held strong with the Huskies and Hawks producing few scoring chances. In the 74th minute, the game would take a massive turn as goalkeeper Ramy Atia was called for a red card from denying a goal scoring opportunity. The Hawks had created a break opportunity that caused Atia to step out of the box and touch the ball. Atia prevented a potential goal by Quincy but resulted in the Huskies playing 10 men the rest of the way. Taking the place of Atia in goal would be JJ Dufner. The red card sparked life for the Hawks in the final 16 minutes and created a multitude of scoring opportunities with the advantage. The defense of St. Cloud State rose to the occasion and Dufner came up big with three saves in the final 16 minutes of action. The Huskies held firm and showed resilience in what would ultimately finish as a 1-1 tie against No. 10 Quincy.
