Henderson has guided the Huskies to the postseason in each of his first three years
St. Cloud, Minn. – St. Cloud State Director of Athletics Holly Schreiner has extended the contract of Men's Basketball Head Coach Quincy Henderson four years, through the 2029-30 season, as announced on September 25. Henderson is entering his fourth year as Head Coach of the Huskies ahead of the 2025-26 season and has guided them to three consecutive postseason appearances while showing consistent improvement throughout his tenure.
"We are excited about the progress that Coach Henderson has made with the program over the last couple of years and his commitment to elevating the program even further," said Schreiner. "He is an asset to the team and the department, and we look forward to watching his continued success."
"It has been an absolute pleasure to lead the Husky program over the past three years, and I feel both honored and blessed to have the opportunity to continue in this role," said Henderson. "I want to thank President Dietz for his leadership and trust in my vision for the program. I would also like to thank Athletic Director Holly Schreiner for her guidance and support. It has been a joy to work for Holly, and her complete dedication to Husky Athletics is always on display. From fellow coaches to administrators, to faculty and staff, there are a host of people doing amazing work here at SCSU."
"The St. Cloud community has been incredibly welcoming to Lara and me, and we feel strongly connected to this area," Henderson expressed. "I have been fortunate to have a staff that has been with me every step of the way, and they are committed to the success of the program and the student-athletes under our care. We still have much to accomplish, but our focus is as pointed now as it was in year one. I am incredibly grateful to be here and excited about what is to come. God bless and go Huskies!"
After taking over the program in May of 2022, Henderson and the Huskies have improved year-in and year-out with a playoff appearance every season. The win total for SCSU has increased from 10 wins in his inaugural season to 12 and then to 20 this past year. Last season, Henderson and the Huskies took a leap with a 20-12 record and a 15-7 mark in conference play to finish tied for third in the NSIC. The Huskies solidified their placement in the conference by going 5-1 over the final six games with a pair of key ranked wins against No. 22 Minot State and No. 23 Winona State at home. Both the total wins and conference wins were the most since the 2018-19 season. Making a brand of physicality on both ends of the floor, St. Cloud State led the conference in free throw attempts with 17.1 and were second in turnovers forced per game with 13.3. Henderson guided the Huskies to their third consecutive postseason appearance and hosted their first postseason game at Halenbeck Hall since 2018-19. A 68-60 win against Bemidji State in the First Round of the NSIC Tournament would be the first postseason win for Henderson at St. Cloud State as the Huskies advanced to the Pentagon. Henderson would coach two All-Conference Honorees in Luke Winkel (First Team) and Nate Dahl (Second Team).
Academically, the Huskies have also seen success throughout Henderson's tenure. The team has earned the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Team Academic Excellence Award the past two seasons. 13 individuals have earned Academic All-NSIC, seven individuals have captured College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District honors, and five individuals have been recognized to the NABC Honors Court.
Henderson embarks on his fourth season at St. Cloud State on November 14 as the Huskies take on Northwest Missouri State to tip-off their season.
