St. Cloud State Women’s Basketball Begins Four-Game Homestand Against NSIC North Opponents

Huskies take on Bemidji State and Minnesota Duluth
St. Cloud, MN. – St. Cloud State Women's Basketball (5-10, 2-8 NSIC) begin their four-game homestand this weekend as they host a pair of NSIC North opponents. SCSU will host Bemidji State on Friday, January 16 and then Minnesota Duluth on Saturday, January 17. Friday's game is set for 7:30 p.m. while Saturday's game will tip-off at 4:00 p.m.

Late Surge Pushes Huskies Past Beavers in 80-71 Win- January 9, 2026
Much of the first quarter was a back-and-forth affair. Each team had their runs to take control, but the other squad would respond. After a 7-0 run by the Beavers, the Huskies retook the lead with a 6-0 run of their own to lead 16-12. Powered by a trio of threes, Minot State ended the quarter on a 13-0 run to lead 25-16 after the first quarter. The Beavers held a steady lead for most of the second quarter, but SCSU returned the favor of a late quarter run as a 13-5 run in the final 3:23 of the half set the score at 43-40 with the Huskies trailing.
The third quarter saw the Beavers hold a small lead of a few points throughout, but a layup by Ashley Sawicki gave the Huskies a 53-51 lead, their first since the first quarter. The teams continued to battle as the Huskies ultimately went into the fourth trailing 58-55. Minot State burst out with a 4-0 run as they looked to take control now leading by seven. Jumpers by the Kottke twins weathered the storm to keep the deficit at bay. The jumpers ultimately sparked a 10-0 run as four straight points from Alana Zarneke again gave SCSU the lead with 5:26 remaining. The teams continued to trade buckets late in the game as they would be tied at 71 with 1:38 left in the game. On the Huskies ensuing possession following free throws by Minot State, Jada Eggebrecht fired a cross-court pass to Kristi Kottke in the slot who cashed a big three. St. Cloud State defense followed through with a steal as the Huskies called a timeout with 32 seconds left. Out of the timeout, Eggebrecht drove baseline out of the corner and delivered the dagger with a floater over three Beavers. Zarneke then came away with an inbounds steal in the frantic moment as MSU would have to foul. Eggebrecht was fouled twice in the final 24 seconds and connected on all four attempts. SCSU ended the game on a 9-0 run as they went on to beat Minot State 80-71.

Huskies Unable to Stop Marauders Three-Point Barrage in 79-67 Loss- January 10, 2026
The first quarter was a tight battle as neither team could gather more than a possession lead. With the game tied at 13, UMary strung together a 7-1 run as they looked to take control. Jada Eggebrecht shutdown that momentum as she finished a driving layup with six seconds left in the quarter. The Marauders would hold a 20-16 lead after one. SCSU stayed tight in the second quarter as they cut the deficit down to one at the 5:50 mark of the half. From that point, UMary closed the half on a 14-5 run to lead 37-27 at the break.
Coming out of halftime, each team ramped up their defense as they each scored one field through the first four minutes. The Huskies would chip away much of the third quarter, but right as it appeared they were ready to break through, the Marauders knocked in a buzzer beating three to end the third quarter. SCSU would be down 52-44 headed into the final frame. St. Cloud State found an offensive flow in the fourth as they tallied 23 points on 47% shooting, but the Marauders put up 27 points on 76% shooting. SCSU trailed by 8+ points the entirety of the fourth as they went on to lose 79-67. UMary made 12 threes to the Huskies three for a 27-point margin.

After crossing 1,000 career points last season, senior Jada Eggebrecht continues to rise the career scoring leaderboard at St. Cloud State. With 203 points this season, Eggebrecht is up to 1,314 career points which puts her at 18th all-time. The Philips, Wis. native has also cashed 158 career three-pointers, good for eighth all-time. She is seven threes away from passing Teri Watkins (1995-99) for seventh.

Huskies Comeback Attempt Falls Short with 74-78 Loss to Beavers- December 19, 2024
Despite the Beavers holding a five-point lead early in the first quarter, the teams went back-and-forth as BSU held a 18-17 lead at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter was when the Beavers started to take control of the game as a 15-5 run over the final seven minutes of the half gave BSU a 39-26 lead going into the break. St. Cloud State had over a five-minute drought between field goals during the run, but a layup by Alyssa Stamer with three seconds left in the half gave the Huskies a little momentum.
Coming out of the break, the Huskies started to find their offensive groove as Kylan Gerads finished in the paint to cap off a 14-2 run, bringing SCSU within one-point. The Huskies continued to battle with the Beavers as back-to-back three-pointers by Jada Eggebrecht and Stamer again brought SCSU within a single-point. The Beavers stabilized over the final 1:13 of the quarter as they would lead 56-52 going into the final frame. In the fourth quarter, a three-pointer by Alana Zarneke at the 7:03 mark gave St. Cloud State their first lead of the game as the score was set a 61-58. The teams traded blows the rest of the way as Bemidji State led 73-69 after converting an and-one with 56 seconds left. In need of a bucket, Gerads came up with a big offensive rebound and then put it back up while getting fouled. She converted the and-one opportunity to bring the Huskies within a point with 45 seconds remaining. BSU finished a layup on their offensive possession to go back up three-points with 16 seconds remaining. St. Cloud State would go to Eggebrecht to tie the game on their possession, but an offensive foul on a moving screen prevented her from getting up a shot. With little time remaining and being low on a team foul count, St. Cloud State would ultimately fall 59-58 to the Beavers.

Zarneke's 25 Points Pushes Huskies Past Duluth 79-66- January 11, 2025
In what was a defensive oriented start to the game, a three by Rachel Kottke gave the Huskies a 7-5 lead at the 3:51 mark of the first quarter. Both teams started to find their offense late in the quarter as SCSU narrowly held a 14-11 lead. St. Cloud State built up a six point lead early in the second quarter, but would ultimately be tied 19-19 with 6:36 left in the half. Alana Zarneke broke that tie as she cashed a three to spark a Huskies run. After getting a defensive stop, the Reagan Briggs came away with a rebound to put St. Cloud State on a fast break. She pushed the ball up to Jada Eggebrecht who dumped it down to Zarneke. She finished the layup while being fouled. Zarneke converted the and-one opportunity and then came away with an inbound steal where she then found a streaking Briggs for a layup. After another stop, Eggebrecht knocked down a long two pointer to put St. Cloud State up 16 after an 18-2 run. SCSU went into the break holding a 37-26 lead after holding UMD to 24% from the field in the first half.
The third quarter saw Duluth start to chip into the lead as they got back within seven points. Back-to-back three's by Kottke and Eggebrecht pushed that lead back up to 11 points. UMD continued to be resilient as they kept fighting, but the Huskies ended the quarter with a bang as Kottke scorched consecutive threes to put SCSU up 14 going into the final frame. St. Cloud State built their lead up to 16 points and led by double-digits the rest of the way as they defeated Minnesota Duluth 79-66.

Scouting Bemidji State
The Bemidji State Beavers come into this game holding a 7-7 record with a 4-6 mark in conference play. Bemidji State has beaten MSU Moorhead, Minnesota Crookston, Jamestown and Sioux Falls. Prior to their win over Sioux Falls, they had lost five straight games. BSU is coming off a 2024-25 season where they went 6-20 with a 4-18 record in the NSIC. They finished 14th and did not reach the NSIC Tournament. Bemidji State was projected to finish 14th in the conference.
The Beavers did not have any All-Conference honorees from last year but return their top scorer in Tieryn Plasch who averaged 10.1 points per game.
Missouri Western transfer Kassandra Caron is leading BSU in scoring with 18.7 points on 48.6% from the field and 40.6% from three. She is also averaging 4.8 rebounds and 2.1 stocks. Evyn Eppinga is the only other Beaver in double figure scoring with 15.5 points. Plasch is scoring 9.4 points per game.

Scouting Minnesota Duluth
The Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs come into this game holding a 12-2 record with an undefeated 10-0 mark in the NSIC. They are currently receiving votes in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Poll. They have beaten all of the NSIC North division teams as well as Sioux Falls and Southwest Minnesota State. The Bulldogs are coming off a 2024-25 season where they went 10-18 and 8-14 in the NSIC. UMD finished 11th in the standings and would be defeated by UMary in the first round of the NSIC Tournament. Duluth came into this season projected to finish 8th in the NSIC.
Minnesota Duluth returns a bulk of their roster from last season, but lost Johanna Miller who made Second Team All-NSIC last season. Six of the top seven scorers from last season return this year.
Four Bulldogs score in double-figures with Claire Bjorge leading the way with 13.6 points per game. She is shooting 46.4% from the field to go with 3.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 2.0 stocks. Myra Moorjani (13.2), Lexi Karge (10.6), and Grace Counts (10.6) are the other Bulldogs exceeding 10+ points.
Head Coach Mandy Pearson enters her 11th season with UMD in 2025-26. Pearson holds a 197-98 record in her tenure and has guided the Bulldogs to the NSIC Tournament every year of her career. UMD has also reached the NCAA Tournament in five seasons while being the National Runner-Up in the 2022-23 season.

Zarneke converted the and-one opportunity and then came away with an inbound steal where she then found a streaking Briggs for a layup. After another stop, Eggebrecht knocked down a long two pointer to put St. Cloud State up 16 after an 18-2 run. SCSU went into the break holding a 37-26 lead after holding UMD to 24% from the field in the first half.
The third quarter saw Duluth start to chip into the lead as they got back within seven points. Back-to-back three's by Kottke and Eggebrecht pushed that lead back up to 11 points. UMD continued to be resilient as they kept fighting, but the Huskies ended the quarter with a bang as Kottke scorched consecutive threes to put SCSU up 14 going into the final frame. St. Cloud State built their lead up to 16 points and led by double-digits the rest of the way as they defeated Minnesota Duluth 79-66.
Top Huskies
- Alana Zarneke had a career-game as she registered her first career double-double with career-highs of 25 points and 13 rebounds. Zarneke was white hot as she shot 7/13 from the field, 3/6 from three, and 8/9 from the free throw line. She also totaled four stocks including a career-high three blocks, and two assists.
- Rachel Kottke scored 14 points while going 4/5 from three-point range, which was a career-high in makes. She also dished out three assists and grabbed two rebounds. This was Kottke's fifth game this season where she has made 3+ threes.
- Paige Lambe scored 12 points while securing five rebounds. She also tallied two blocks and assists. This was Lambe's sixth game scoring in double-digits this season.
Scouting Bemidji State
The Bemidji State Beavers come into this game holding a 7-7 record with a 4-6 mark in conference play. Bemidji State has beaten MSU Moorhead, Minnesota Crookston, Jamestown and Sioux Falls. Prior to their win over Sioux Falls, they had lost five straight games. BSU is coming off a 2024-25 season where they went 6-20 with a 4-18 record in the NSIC. They finished 14th and did not reach the NSIC Tournament. Bemidji State was projected to finish 14th in the conference.
The Beavers did not have any All-Conference honorees from last year but return their top scorer in Tieryn Plasch who averaged 10.1 points per game.
Missouri Western transfer Kassandra Caron is leading BSU in scoring with 18.7 points on 48.6% from the field and 40.6% from three. She is also averaging 4.8 rebounds and 2.1 stocks. Evyn Eppinga is the only other Beaver in double figure scoring with 15.5 points. Plasch is scoring 9.4 points per game.
Head Coach Chelsea Stoltenberg enters her 11th season with BSU in 2025-26. She has accumulated a 84-187 record in her tenure.

Scouting Minnesota Duluth
The Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs come into this game holding a 12-2 record with an undefeated 10-0 mark in the NSIC. They are currently receiving votes in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Poll. They have beaten all of the NSIC North division teams as well as Sioux Falls and Southwest Minnesota State. The Bulldogs are coming off a 2024-25 season where they went 10-18 and 8-14 in the NSIC. UMD finished 11th in the standings and would be defeated by UMary in the first round of the NSIC Tournament. Duluth came into this season projected to finish 8th in the NSIC.
Minnesota Duluth returns a bulk of their roster from last season, but lost Johanna Miller who made Second Team All-NSIC last season. Six of the top seven scorers from last season return this year.
Four Bulldogs score in double-figures with Claire Bjorge leading the way with 13.6 points per game. She is shooting 46.4% from the field to go with 3.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 2.0 stocks. Myra Moorjani (13.2), Lexi Karge (10.6), and Grace Counts (10.6) are the other Bulldogs exceeding 10+ points.
Head Coach Mandy Pearson enters her 11th season with UMD in 2025-26. Pearson holds a 197-98 record in her tenure and has guided the Bulldogs to the NSIC Tournament every year of her career.
