No. 15 St. Cloud State Women’s Hockey Scores Two Late Third Period Goals To Earn Tie With No. 8 Minnesota Duluth

Huskies pick up extra WCHA point after earning 1-0 shutout win, snap eight game losing streak at AMSOIL Arena
DULUTH, Minn. – No. 15 St. Cloud State Women's Hockey (7-14-2, 3-12-2 Western Collegiate Hockey Association) scored two goals in the final 4:15 to earn a 2-2 tie against No. 8 Minnesota Duluth on Friday night at AMSOIL Arena in Duluth. The Huskies also earned the extra WCHA point after winning the shootout, 1-0. With the tie, SCSU snapped an eight-game losing streak against UMD at AMSOIL Arena.
The Bulldogs (12-9-2, 8-7-2 WCHA) opened the scoring with a goal 9:06 into the first period and doubled their lead with another goal with under 90 seconds left in the second period.
SCSU got on the board with 4:15 left in the third period after senior forward Avery Farrell (Rogers, Minn.) beat the Minnesota Duluth glove-side, cutting the Huskies deficit to one.
Just 1:19 later, freshman defender Maélie Pion (Sherbrooke, Quebec) tied the game at two from outside the left circle. Graduate defender Grace Wolfe (Owatonna, Minn.) fired in a shot from the top of the right circle that forced the UMD goalie out of the net. The shot went wide right and caromed off the boards to Pion who put the puck into the back of the empty net before the netminder could pick up her stick and return to the crease. The game-tying goal was the last of regulation and the game went to overtime.
After the five-minute overtime period went scoreless, the game went on to be decided by a shootout. Both teams missed each of their first five shots. Sophomore goaltender Emilia Kyrkkö (Nokia, Finland) stopped the Bulldogs sixth shot and Wolfe won the shootout and secured the extra conference point for SCSU on the Huskies next shot.

- Kyrkkö made 39 saves in the game (.951 save percentage) including seven in overtime and was named the No. 1 star for her efforts.
- Wolfe provided the primary assist on the game-tying goal and scored the shootout winner. She was named the game's No. 3 star.
- Farrell and Pion scored the SCSU goals.
- SCSU moved to 15-94-13 all-time against Minnesota Duluth and 0-8-2 in the 10 games against the Bulldogs. The Huskies moved to 5-56-6 all time against UMD in Duluth and 0-2-1 against Minnesota Duluth this season.

- Kyrkkö made 39+ saves for the second time this season. She improved her season GAA to 2.03, her season SV% to .938, her career GAA to 2.00 and her career SV% to .931. The tie was the fifth of her career.
- Wolfe's assist was her team leading 11th of the season. Her 14 points this season are tied for second most on the team.
- Farrell's goal was her 5th of the season and 30th of her career. It was also her 65th career point. She was one of three Huskies to skate to a +1 mark. Her 14 points this season are tied for second most on the team.
- Pion's goal was just the second of her career. She tied for the team lead in blocks, with two.
- Freshman defender Sydney Lamb (Lombard, Ill.) recorded her fifth assist of the season and tied for the team lead in blocks, with two.
