SCSU’s Wylie nets second goal of the season on power play
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Men's Hockey (13-14-0, 6-11-0 NCHC) dropped its series opener to Miami (15-8-2, 6-7-2 NCHC), 2-1, on Friday night at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud. All three goals were scored in a 4:16 span of the second period, with Miami scoring first before a power play goal from senior defenseman Cooper Wylie followed by the game-winner from Miami's John Emmons.
Miami outshot SCSU 11-6 while the Huskies killed off the game's first power play in the first period. The RedHawks got on the scoreboard first when Ethan Hay's shot from above the left dot his an SCSU defender's skate and found the back of the net. Soon after, the Huskies tied the score when it converted its first chance on the power play. Wylie kept the play alive when he held the puck in the offensive zone off a deflection. He moved the puck to freshman forward Nolan Roed before a cross-ice pass to freshman forward Noah Urness and then back to Wylie at the blue line for a one-timer shot and score. Unfortunately, the tie didn't last for long, as Miami's Emmons scored the game-winning goal two minutes later on a breakaway attempt.
SCSU began the period having to kill off back-to-back penalties, but was able to rebound and have its chances to tie the score in the third period, but couldn't find the back of the net to tie the score.
