Sauriol notched eight points in sweep of Bemidji State, Bryant led WCHA blueliners with three points
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – St. Cloud State Women's Hockey junior forward Alice Sauriol (Sherbrooke, Quebec) and redshirt sophomore defender Sydney Bryant (Traverse City, Mich.) earned Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) weekly honors, as announced by the league office on Monday. Sauriol was named the Forward of the Week after tallying eight points (2 goals, 6 assists) while Bryant was named Defender of the Week after a three-point weekend in SCSU's home sweep of Bemidji State.
The weekly honor is the third career honor and second this season for Sauriol, who was named Forward of the Week earlier this season on Oct. 20 and the WCHA Rookie of the Week on Oct. 19, 2023. It is the first career weekly honor for Bryant, as well as the seventh and eighth weekly honors for the Huskies this season.
Sauriol is the third Husky to win multiple weekly honors from the conference after sophomore goaltender Emilia Kyrkkö (Nokia, Finland) who was named Goaltender of the Week on Dec. 1 and Jan. 19 and freshman forward Maria Mikaelyan (Moscow, Russia), who was named WCHA Rookie of the Week on Oct. 13 and Dec. 8. The Huskies have won all four conference weekly honors (forward, defender, goaltender and rookie) at least once. In addition to Bryant, Kyrkkö, Mikaelyan and Sauriol, sophomore defender Siiri Yrjölä (Vantaa, Finland) was named Defender of the Week on Sept. 22.
Sauriol led the charge for the Huskies in their home sweep of Bemidji State, scoring two goals and six assists for eight points with a +7 mark on the ice. She posted a career-high five points (two goals, three assists) and a +5-mark including a school record four points (one goal, three assists) in the second period of SCSU's 6-2 win on Friday. Additionally, her three assists in the period tied the program record for assists in a period. It was the Huskies second three-assist game of the season, the first 5-point performance by a Husky since Holly Roberts had six in 2010 and the most points in a game since Taylor Lind and Jenniina Nylund each had four-point performances in 2022-23. Sauriol added three assists and skated to a +2 mark in Saturday's 5-0 shutout win. It was her third career and second consecutive three-assist performance. She was named one of the WCHA 3 Stars of the Night on Friday and Saturday.
The Sherbrooke, Quebec native was one of six WCHA skaters with two multi-point games, and she ranked No. 1 in assists (six), No. 1 in points (eight), tied for No. 1 in shot percentage (.500), tied for No. 1 in game-winning goals (one) and tied for No. 2 in goals (two). Her six assists were double the amount of the next most and she had three more points than No. 2. Sauriol's five- and three-point performances ranked No. 1 and tied for No. 2. She was one of two players to record two goals in a game and was the only player with a three-assist performance and she had two such performances. Her +7 mark for the weekend also led the conference.
On the season, the junior has scored eight goals and 18 assists for 26 points with three game-winning goals. Sauriol's assists and points lead the team this season. Her 18 assists are the most since her former teammate Klára Hymlárová had 18 in 2019-20 and her 26 points are the most since Nylund had 28 in 2022-23. This season she has three multi-goal games, four multi-assist games and her eight multi-point games.
Bryant notched three points (1 goal, 2 assists) with three blocked shots and a +6 mark in the series sweep of the Beavers. She had a goal and an assist for her first career multi-point game while skating to a team best +5 mark in Friday's game. She added an assist and two blocks in Saturday's game.
