Klaphake ends regular season with record setting performance, Huskies advance to NCAA playoffs for third time in his career
Nov. 18 - St. Cloud -- Phillip Klaphake was named the NSIC Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, Nov. 18. Klaphake passed for a single game record 512 yards, tied the single game record for touchdown passes with five and went over the 10,000 yard career passing mark in the Huskies 64-27 win over MSU Moorhead on Nov. 16. Klaphake completed 30 of 43 passes for 512 yards and five touchdowns. He broke his old record of 466 passing yards set against Minnesota Duluth last fall and tied, for the third time in his career, the single game touchdown passes mark. The Huskies rolled up a school record 780 yards of total offense and tied the school record for wins in a season with their 10th victory. St. Cloud State completed the 2013 season 6-0 on their home turf. Klaphake went over the 10,000 yard passing mark on the Huskies first play from scrimmage connecting on a 30-yard completion. He has 10,500 career passing yards and 2,302 career rushing yards, making him the third player in NCAA Division II history to reach 10,000 passing yards and 2,000 rushing yards in a career.
Klaphake finished the regular season completing 192 of 318 pass attempts for 2,787 yards, 25 touchdowns and just five interceptions. He rushed 107 times for 486 yards and eight touchdowns.
The Huskies have won nine or more game in three of the four seasons that Klaphake has been the starting quarterback.
Nov. 14 - Florence, Ala. - Phillip Klaphake is one of 28 candidates to advance to regional balloting for the 2013 Harlon Hill Trophy awarded to the NCAA Division II College Football Player of the Year.

2013 Highlights: On Nov. 2, Klaphake threw for 156 yards and two touchdowns and broke the SCSU career record for passing yards, compiling 9,788 yards to surpass the old mark of 9,695. That same game, he rushed for a career high 147 yards marking the fourth 100-yard rushing game of his career and moved into fourth place on the SCSU all-time rushing chart with 2,233 yards. For the second time in his career, Klaphake tied the school record for touchdown passes in a single game with five scoring strikes in the Huskies 64-7 win over Northern State on Oct. 26 and was named the NSIC Offensive Player of the Week and an Honorable Mention USA College Football Player of the Week for his performance. He threw for a season high 323 yards and scored the winning touchdown on a six yard run with 43 seconds left in the game in a 29-26 win over Winona State in the home opener on Sept. 14. His teammates used the phrase “in Phil we trust” after he engineered the 11 play, 75-yard drive that gave the Huskies the win. Klaphake is a 2013 National Football Foundation Campbell Trophy Semifinalist. His 2013 preseason honors include; NSIC North Division Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, USA College Football Division II Preseason Second Team All-American and a D2football.com Top 100 Division II Football Player of 2013.
2013 Key Stats: Starter in all 11 games to date (10-1 record), Klaphake has thrown for over 200 yards in eight games and thrown at least two touchdown passes in nine games, including five against Northern State and MSU Moorhead. He has completed 192 of 318 pass attempts for 2,787 yards and 25 touchdowns. He has thrown just five interceptions. His longest pass play of the season was an 86-yard touchdown pass on Nov. 2 at Bemidji State. He is averaging 14.5 yards per completion and 253.4 yards passing per game. He has a 60.4 completion percentage and 155.79 passing efficiency. Klaphake has rushed for 486 yards on 107 carries and scored eight touchdowns. Fourth straight year of 2,000 plus passing yards.

Career Awards and Accomplishments: A four-year starting quarterback, Klaphake has started 43 of a possible 47 games in his career. He has missed two games due to injury and last year stepped aside in the final game of the season allowing a senior quarterback to start his final collegiate game. The team is 32-11 in Klaphake’s 43 starts. St. Cloud State is 36-11 over the last four seasons, won a share of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Championship in 2011 and advanced to the NCAA playoffs in 2010 and 2011, and are in contention for a third NCAA playoff in 2013. Klaphake has started all three NCAA playoff games since 2010. He was the 2010 NSIC Offensive Newcomer of the Year and was voted the 2012 and 2013 NSIC North Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. He is a three-time All-NSIC team selection, earning first team honors in 2011 and 2012. He has been named an NSIC Offensive Player of the Week in each of his four seasons. His 2012 post-season honors included Don Hansen Honorable Mention All-American, Don Hansen Second Team All-Super Region 3, Top 24 Harlon Hill Semifinalist and St. Cloud State Team MVP. The Huskies have enjoyed a top 25 national ranking in each of the last four seasons.
As of Nov. 4, 2013, Klaphake ranked in the top ten among NCAA Division II active career leaders in 5,000 passing/1,000 rushing (1st – 12,021 yards), total offense (2nd – 12,021 yards), passing yards (4th – 9,788), total TDs responsive for (4th – 115) total plays (5th – 1,597 yards), touchdown passes (6th – 81), passing attempts (9th – 1,109) and passing efficiency (9th – 155.68).
Team Honors and Records: A three-year team captain, Klaphake holds school records for most passing yards in a career with 9,788 and is the first Husky quarterback to pass for over 9,000 yards and rush for over 2,000 in a career. He could become the third NCAA Division II quarterback to pass for over 10,000 and rush for over 2,000 yards in a career. He ranks fourth on the all-time rushing chart with 2,233 yards. He holds single game records for most passing yards (466) and tied the single game record for touchdown passes twice (5). He holds single season records for best completion percentage (65.6 in 2010), most yards gained passing (2,918 in 2010), most rush-pass plays (475 in 2010) and most yards gained rushing and passing (3,716 in 2010). He is the career record holder for all-purpose yardage with 12,021 yards.
Academic Awards: Klaphake is student teaching during the final semester of his career and will graduate in December of 2013. A health and physical education major he will be a three-time Academic All-NSIC team member, is a 2013 NFF Trophy semifinalist, a Capital One Academic All-America® Team nominee and an All State AFCA Good Works Team® nominee. Klaphake is an Honors Program student and SCSU Dean's List member. Klaphake served in the St. Cloud State Academic Support Services department as an Academic Peer Tutor where he guided students in their academic endeavors and served as a classroom role model. He has been awarded the Olga Harte Academic Scholarship given to an education major, been a Wolters Klower Student Athlete of the Month and the football team SAAC representative.
