
Men's Hockey: Huskies Drop Season Opener at New Hampshire, 3-5

Durham, N.H. - The St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (0-1-0 / 0-0-0 WCHA) dropped a close 5-3 decision at the University of New Hampshire (1-0-0 / 0-0-0 CAA) on Oct. 12 in Durham, N.H.
The Wildcats gained control of the game with a 2-0 first period lead, as Greg Burke and Trevor Van Riemsdyk each had goals for the Wildcats.
The Huskies controled the second period with two goals to tie the game up 2-2. Andrew Prochno scored the first goal at the 14:39 mark and was assisted by Ben Hanowski and Drew LaBlanc. The second goal for the Huskies came at the 19:26 mark in the second period by Ben Hanowski. Assists on the play were carded by Nick Jensen and Nic Dowd.
The third period was largely controlled by the Wildcats as they scored three goals taking a 5-2 lead over the Huskies. Dalton Speelman recorded two of the three goals and Austin Block had one for the Wildcats. SCSU was able to score one last time at the 11:16 mark of the third period, as Tim Daly found the net making it 5-3. Assists were recorded by Garrett Milan and David Morley.
The Wildcats outshot the Huskies by a 39-23 margin, as SCSU's goalie Ryan Faragher had 34 saves in the contest. UNH goalie Casey DeSmith had 20 for the Wildcats.
SCSU and UNH will continue the two game series in Durham with game two on Saturday, Oct. 13 at the Whittemore Center in Durham, N.H.
