Women's Hockey: Huskies Drop Series at North Dakota

Grand Forks, N.D. - The St. Cloud State University women's hockey team fell in a conference series against the University of North Dakota Saturday 1-0. The Huskies record drops to 2-4-0 overall, 2-4-0 WCHA while UND improves to 4-2-0 overall, 4-2-0 WCHA with the sweep.
The Huskies showed up big defensively in game two of the series only allowing one goal. It was scoreless at the end of the first period with UND outshooting the Huskies 13-7.
It was not until about midway through the second period that UND scored the only goal of the night at the 9:12 mark. It was Jocelyne Lamoureux scoring the game-winning goal, which was her third goal of the series against the Huskies. An assist was charted to Becca Kohler. UND again outshot the Huskies in the second 13-4.
In the third it was another defensive period for both teams. UND only outshot SCSU 10-8 in the third.
Sophomore Audrey Hanmer (Wyoming, Minn.) and junior Molli Mott (Colorado Springs, Colo.) led the team in shots with both putting four on goal.
Freshman goalie Katie Fitzgerald earned her third career start for the Huskies recording 35 saves in game two. Fitzgerald's record is now 1-2-0 on the season. UND's Jorid Dagfinrud records 19 saves for the shutout victory and improves her record to 3-0-0.
The Huskies will return to action this weekend as they travel to Providence, R.I. as they take on Providence College on October 27-28 to end their road stint. Both games are slated to start at 12 p.m. central time. The Huskies first home series will be on November 2-3 as they welcome Ohio State University to the National Hockey and Event Center.
BREAST CANCER AWARENESS:
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The Huskies are helping support breast cancer awareness in different ways. During the month of October all teams in the WCHA will be wearing special breast cancer awareness patches on their jerseys. The St. Cloud State women's hockey team is working together to help find a cure by selling t-shirts for $10 through the month of October. All the proceeds the team earns from the t-shirt sales are going to “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer,” which includes research, prevention, awareness, and wigs for those currently going through treatment.
