Men's Basketball Falls to Michigan State, 62-49 in Exhibition Game

East Lansing, Mich. – The St. Cloud State University men's basketball team opened the 2012-13 season Friday night in an exhibition game at Michigan State University, falling to the nationally ranked Spartans, 62-49.

St. Cloud State stayed with the Spartans throughout the game with a solid defensive effort. Sophomore forward Connor Niehaus (Fremont, Neb.) led the Huskies with ten points.
Senior forward Theo Rothstein (St. Michael) had 11 rebounds, two blocked shots and two steals.
The Huskies shot 35.1 percent from the field and made two of eight free throw attempts. St. Cloud State had four blocked shots to the Spartans two.
Michigan State, ranked #14 in both the Associated Press and ESPN/USA Today pre-season polls had four players finish the game in double figure scoring.
Derrick Nix led all players with 14 points. Adreian Payne tallied a double double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
The Spartans shot 42.3 percent from the field and made 15 of 28 free throw attempts.
St. Cloud State sophomore guard Kevin Levandoski (Appleton, Wis.) got to play against his uncle, Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo. Levandoski, who had a large family following at the game score three points.
The Huskies, ranked #14 in the Basketball Times pre-season poll will play at St. John's University on Nov. 16. The tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
