#12 SCSU Men's Hockey on the Road to Duluth

The #12 St. Cloud State men's hockey team (6-4-0, 4-2-0 WCHA) will travel to Minnesota Duluth (2-6-2, 0-4-2 WCHA) for a pair of WCHA contests on Nov. 23-24 at the Bulldog's AMSOIL Arena.

12: The Huskies were ranked 12th in this week's USCHO.com Division I men's hockey poll and they were also ranked 12th in the USA TODAY/USA Hockey Magazine poll on Nov. 19. This marked SCSU's highest national ranking of the 2012-13 season, and it was also the highest national ranking in the DI polls since hitting #10/11 on Oct. 11, 2010. SCSU has been ranked among the top 20 for four consecutive weeks now.
14: St. Cloud State senior Drew LeBlanc and junior Nic Dowd rank second in the WCHA this week with 14 points apiece (overall games played). Dowd has a team leading six goals this season, while LeBlanc has five goals and nine assists. A team captain, LeBlanc is a graduate of Hermantown High School, which is a suburb of Duluth, Minn.LAST WEEK: The Huskies enjoyed their first bye week of the 2012-13 season on Nov. 16-17...SCSU continued its strong start to the 2012-13 season with a weekend split against #6 ranked North Dakota at the NHEC on Nov. 9-10. On Nov. 9, the Huskies lost a 3-0 match-up against UND before avoiding the sweep with a big 5-2 victory over UND on Nov. 10. This marked the second consecutive weekend that the Huskies have gained a split against a top 6 ranked team, with SCSU going 1-1 at #3 Denver on Nov. 2-3. SCSU currently owns a 6-4-0, 4-2-0 WCHA record in 2012-13.
TOUGH TO BEAT: The Huskies are outscoring their opponents 36-25 in 2012-13, and they are also outshooting their opponents 304-277 after the first 10 games of the year. The Huskies rank fifth in the country this year with 3.60 goals scored per game, ...SCSU has allowed only two power play goals in their last seven games.
SOLID BACKSTOP: Sophomore goalkeeper Ryan Faragher owns a 5-4-0 record this year with a 2.29 goals against average and a .921 save rate. He has made 220 saves this winter in nine games played. He is 14-15-3 during his career at SCSU with a 2.65 GAA and a .916 career save rate. These games at UMD mark Faragher's first appearances against the Bulldogs.
YOUTH MOVEMENT: Rookie forward Jimmy Murray scored his first collegiate goal in the Huskies' 5-2 win over UND on Nov. 10 at the NHEC. Murray hails from the Chicago suburb of Darien, Ill...Sophomore forward Joe Rehkamp broke into the SCSU scoring column on Nov. 10 with a career game-high three assists. These were the first points of the year for Rehkamp. Teammate sophomore forward Garrett Milan also scored his first goal of 2012-13 on Nov. 10 vs. UND... SCSU freshman Jonny Brodzinski got back on the scoresheet with his second goal of the 2012-13 season on Nov. 10 against UND. Brodzinski now has two goals and two assists for the Huskies in his first year at SCSU.
SCORE FIRST, FIND SUCCESS: SCSU is 5-0-0 this season when it scores the first goal of a game this year. SCSU is 4-0-0 this year when it owns a lead after the first period and the Huskies are 6-0-0 when they lead after two periods this season.
IT WAS A LONG NIGHT: Two of the longest games in SCSU history have been played against Minnesota Duluth. The Huskies longest game in history was a three OT affair on March 11, 2007 when SCSU posted a 3-2 OT win at home against UMD in the WCHA playoffs. The game lasted a total of 111:33 minutes before Andreas Nodl scored the GWG. The last time SCSU played at UMD, the Bulldogs gained a 3-2 3OT win on March 12, 2011. That game lasted 101:13 minutes in the WCHA playoffs.
LeBLANC BACK HOME: Senior Drew LeBlanc will be heading back home this weekend. LeBlanc is a 2008 graduate of Hermantown H.S., where he helped that school win a MSHSL title during his high school career. A math education major at SCSU, LeBlanc received a medical redshirt last year and has opted to come back for his final year in 2012-13. A team captain, LeBlanc currently leads SCSU this winter with 14 points (5g/9a). Did you know he ran a lawn mowing service during his high schools days in Hermantown.
HUSKY TIDBITS: On the topic points, LeBlanc now has 111 career points at SCSU. He ranks 17th in the career charts at SCSU along with former Husky standouts Fred Knipscheer and Tony Gruba.
