#16 SCSU Men's Hockey to Host RPI On Dec. 27-28

The #16 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (11-7-0, 9-5-0 WCHA) will continue their 2012-13 season on Dec. 27-28 with a two-game set against non-conference opponent Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (4-6-4, 1-5-2 ECAC) at the National Hockey and Event Center in St. Cloud, Minn. The Huskies currently sit in first place in the WCHA with a 9-5-0 record.

YOUTH HOCKEY NIGHTS AT SCSU
The SCSU games on Dec. 27-28 and Jan. 4-5 have been designated as Youth Hockey Nights at the NHEC. All youth hockey players (8th grade and younger) who wear there team jersey to the games on those nights will be admitted FREE with a paid adult.
HUSKY HOCKEY NOTES AND NEWS:
LAST TIME ON ICE: The St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (11-7-0, 9-5-0 WCHA) moved into first place this week thanks to a weekend sweep over Colorado College. On Dec. 14, the Huskies posted a 5-3 win over the Tigers and they ended the series with a 3-1 victory over CC on Dec. 15 at the NHEC...this marked the Huskies' third weekend sweep of the season and their second WCHA series sweep of 2012-13. The sweep also snapped a string of five weekend splits for the Huskies. On Dec. 14, the Huskies trailed 2-0 in the second period before staging a comeback that was capped by four goals in the third period to seal a 5-3 win. David Morley notched two goals in the game for SCSU...on Dec. 15, SCSU skated to a 3-1 win with the game winner being scored by senior Ben Hanowski in the 2nd period.
BRODZNSKI GAINS WCHA HONORS: SCSU freshman forward Jonny Brodzinski earned WCHA Rookie of the Week notice on Dec. 18. Brodznski has scored five goals in the last six games for the Huskies. He currently owns a three-game goal streak and marked goals in both the SCSU games vs. CC. He also had an assist on Dec. 14 for a total of 3 points on the weekend. On the season, Brodzinski has 7g/4a for 11 points.
THE CAPTAIN CALLS: Senior forward Drew LeBlanc continues to inspire with his comeback story after missing last year as an injury redshirt. In 18 games this winter, LeBlanc leads the nation with 19 assists and also leads the Huskies with 24 points this winter. He scored three assists in the series against CC. LeBlanc owns a 7-game point streak and now has 34g/87a and 121 career points. He continues to climb the Husky career charts and now ranks 14th for points (121) behind Dave Paradise (122 points from 1993-97). He ranks 6th in the SCSU career assists charts with 87, just behind Joe Motzko (90 from 1999-03). SCSU's Garrett Roe is the all-time SCSU assist man with 113 from 2007-11. Roe is currently playing for Adirondack in the AHL this season.
FRESHMEN LEADERS: SCSU rookie forward Kalle Kossila currently leads the nation's freshmen (and SCSU) with 10 goals scored. Kossila posted two goals for the Huskies in the weekend sweep of CC at the NHEC...on the heels of his hat trick on Dec. 7, SCSU freshman forward David Morley charted another multi-point night with a pair of goals on Dec. 14 against CC. Morley currently ranks among the nation's top 11 freshmen this season in scoring with 12 points (6g/6a).
OFFENSE ON DEFENSE: SCSU junior Nick Jensen, a Detroit draft pick, is tied for first among Division I blueliners with 13 assists this season. Jensen charted two assists in the Huskies' 5-3 win over CC on Dec. 14 .
TURNING 50: Ben Hanowski broke a five-game goal scoring drought on Dec. 15 with his marker against CC. Hanowski continues his march toward the 100-point plateau with 95 points to his credit now. His goal on Dec. 15 was his 50th career goal as a Husky. He becomes just the 16th player in SCSU's Division I era to score 50 career goals.
HUSKY NOTES: The Huskies have outscored their opponents 62-45 this season and they have outshot their opponents 532-472 this year...SCSU has outshot its opponents in the last six games and the 17 shot total allowed by the Huskies against CC is SCSU's best defensive effort of the season to date...Andrew Prochno paces the Huskies with 18 blocked shots this season on defense...SCSU leads the WCHA (league games only) on the penalty kill at 87.8% and on defense at 2.36 goals per game allowed. SCSU has not allowed a PP goal in its last five games (10-of-10 on the PK during that run).
