Men's Basketball Wins at Minot State, 64-51

Minot, N.D. – St. Cloud State University men's basketball behind a 23-point performance from senior forward Theo Rothstein (St. Michael) posted a 64-51 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) win over Minot State University Friday night in Minot.
The Huskies improved to 14-3 overall and 10-3 in the NSIC. St. Cloud State will play at the University of Mary on Saturday at 6 p.m. Minot State fell to 6-11 overall and 5-8 in the NSIC. The Beavers will host Minnesota Duluth on Saturday.
The win over the Beavers avenged an earlier season loss in St. Cloud when Minot State outscored the Huskies, ranked 19th at the time, 68-62.
Rothstein led all players in scoring and scored the first ten points for the Huskies. He finished the game with six rebounds and two blocked shots.
First year guard Jordan Poydras (DePere, Wis.) scored 15 points for the Huskies, has a season high four steals and handed out three assists. Senior guard Shaun Jensen (Spring Lake Park) added 12 points, making eight of 11 free throw assists and had four assists. Sophomore forward Connor Niehaus (Fremont, Neb.) had 11 points and five rebounds, knocking down all three three-point attempts.
The Huskies shot 37 percent from the field, 36 percent from three-point range and made 18 of 21 free throw attempts.
Minot State out rebounded the Huskies 47-33 but had 18 turnovers. Anthony Enriquez scored 11 points for the Beavers. Chris East pulled had a game high 18 rebounds to go with his eight points. The Beavers shot 32 percent from the field and made nine of 14 free throw attempts.
The Huskies led 16-14 midway through the first half and propelled themselves to a 35-24 half-time advantage.
Four minutes into the second half, the Husky lead was 48-28 but Minot didn't give up. The Beavers closed the gap with a 9-2 run, cutting the Husky lead to 50-37 at the 11:18 mark of the second half. A pair of free throws by Minot's Adam Randall cut the score to 56-49 but that was the closest the Beavers would get.
