#2 Huskies on the Road to #20 Minnesota Duluth This Weekend

The #2 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (9-1-2, 4-1-1-0 NCHC) will return to action this weekend with a pair of road dates at #20 Minnesota Duluth (6-5-1, 2-2-0) on Friday, Dec. 7 and Saturday, Dec. 7. Both games will start at 7:07 p.m. at the AMSOIL Arena (6,750 cap./200x85) in Duluth, Minn.
TEDDY BEAR TOSS: SCSU's annual Teddy Bear Toss will take place between the 1st and 2nd intermission during the game against Union on Friday, Dec. 13. Fans are encouraged to bring a new or gently used Teddy Bear or stuffed animal toy to throw onto the ice during the Toss. All the items collected during the Teddy Bear Toss will be donated to this year's local Toys for Tots campaign.

BACK ON ICE: The Huskies enjoyed a bye week over the Thanksgiving weekend. On Dec. 6-7, SCSU will return to action with a road trip to NCHC rival Minnesota Duluth. The Huskies and Bulldogs have enjoyed a long history in the series between the two schools, which dates back to an 8-1 win for the Huskies back in 1946-47. SCSU owns a 56-40-8 lead in the all-time series. In their lone meeting against UMD in 2012-13, the Huskies charted a 2-1 loss and a 5-1 win in Duluth. SCSU is 2-2-1 in its last five meetings against the Bulldogs and 4-3-3 in the last 10 meetings vs. UMD. Of note, SCSU is 2-3-1 in games played at the new AMSOIL Arena in Duluth.
AWARD WINNER: SCSU's last time on ice featured a 2-2 OT tie on Nov. 22 and a 6-2 win over CC on Nov. 23 at the Brooks Center. Andrew Prochno gained NCHC Defensive Player of the Week notice with one goal and three assists vs. CC. Of note, Prochno and defensive mate Ethan Prow were both an impressive +4 vs. CC on Nov. 23. Sophomore Jonny Brodzinski also had two goals and one assist in the series vs. CC.
TURN OF THE CENTURY: Senior forward Nic Dowd leads SCSU with 8 goals this season. He has 38 goals and 54 assists to his credit during his career and is eight points away from hitting the 100-point plateau. Dowd would become the 25 player in the history of DI hockey at SCSU to join the Huskies' 100-point club.
HOW GOOD ARE THE HUSKIES?:Â SCSU ranks first in the nation with a .833 winning rate (9-1-2) in 2013-14...SCSU junior goalie Ryan Faragher ranks third in the nation for goalies with a winning rate of .850 (8-1-1) in 2013-14...The Huskies rank third in the nation on scoring defense this week with an average of 1.83 goals allowed per game...On offense, SCSU ranks eighth in the nation with a scoring rate of 3.58 goals per game.
ROLLING ALONG: SCSU junior defender Andrew Prochno and sophomore forward Joey Benik both own four-game point streaks headed into the series at UMD. Prochno has 1g/5a in the last four games for the Huskies. Prochno has 54 assists during his career at SCSU, which ranks sixth among Husky blueliners in the team's career record book.

SET THE TEMPO: The Huskies have only been outshot twice this season and they currently have outshot their opponents 421-291 this winter. SCSU has also outscored its opponents 43-22 this season. One more Husky fact - SCSU has only allowed six power play goals in 12 games this season. SCSU's record for fewest power play goals allowed in a season was 18 in 2007-08. This works out to an average of .45 power play goals allowed in the the season. In 2013-14, SCSU is currently averaging .50 power play goals allowed after 12 games played.
THE LAST TIME: The last time SCSU hit #2 in the DI national polls was a #2 ranking in the USCHO.com poll on Feb. 28, 2007. SCSU also hit #4 in the poll from Feb. 1 through March 1, 2010 and back in 2001-02, the Huskies held the number one spot in the poll for several weeks before falling back to #2 on Feb. 25, 2002.
