SCSU Soccer Heads Into Home Opener, 2-0

St. Cloud, Minn. - The St. Cloud State University women's soccer team is set to kick off their first home stand of the 2013 season Friday, September 13 and Sunday, September 15. The Huskies will welcome Northwest Missouri State University Friday for a 7 p.m. game and Minnesota Duluth Sunday for a 1 p.m. game time.
This weekend the SCSU soccer team will also be holding their 6th Annual Huskies Supporters Weekend to celebrate 20 years of SCSU soccer. The whole weekend is filled with many fun and entertaining events to enjoy. For more information on the event, click here.
The Huskies next upcoming games will be right in the comforts of Husky Stadium as they host Winona State University and Upper Iowa University on September 21-22. Both games are set for 1 p.m. start times.
Tickets for all SCSU Soccer home games can be purchased at the gate the day of the event or you can purchase in advance by going to www.scsutickets.com. Attention SCSU students! All SCSU students with a valid St. Cloud State student ID card will be admitted FREE to all regular season Husky home soccer games in 2013. Just show your ID card at the gate and get in free...it is that easy!
- The Huskies hold a 2-0 overall record going into the weekend
- Northwest Missouri State comes into this weekend's game with a 1-1 record, while Minnesota Duluth also comes in with a 1-1 record.
- Sunday against the Bulldogs will be the Huskies first NSIC game of the 2013 season.
- SCSU kicked off their 2013 campaign on the road last week for two nonconference games at the Peacock Soccer Classic in Fayette, Iowa.
- In the Huskies first game last Thursday they took on Southwest Baptist University.
- Sophomore Ally Herod shot to the right side of the net from 15 yards out off an assist by sophomore Gabby Fleck at the 17:29 mark for an early lead over SBU.
- The Huskies held on to their lead to defeat Southwest Baptist by a final score of 1-0.
- SCSU rounded out the Peacock Soccer Classic on Friday, as they took on Maryville University (Mo.).Â
- The match was scoreless during the first half but the Huskies came back in the second half continuing to battle for a win outshooting the Maryville by two.Â
- Junior Taige Thoreson earned the game-winning goal as she shot from four yards out off an assist by Kara Espinosa to take a 1-0 lead at the 86:53 mark of the game.Â
- Sophomore Brittany Plombon was in the net for the Huskies both games recording 20 saves to earn two shutout victories moving her season record to 2-0.Â
- Plombon was recognized for her shutout performances being named NSIC Goalkeeper of the Week (Sept. 9).
- With the Huskies 2-0 start, head coach Becky Heiberberger-McCabe is now the most-winningest coach in SCSU soccer history with a 50-37-12 overall record.
