
Men's and Women's Golf to Open Season this Weekend

St. Cloud, Minn. -- The St. Cloud State University men's and women's golf teams will step on the tee box for their first competitions of the 2013-14 season this weekend.
About the women:Â The St. Cloud State women will compete in two separate events starting this afternoon with a shotgun start at the Cobber Open to be played at Wildflower Golf Club in Detroit Lakes. On Saturday and Sunday, the women will compete in the Cobber Invite, also at Wildflower.
About the men: The Husky men's squad will open the season on Monday at the NSIC Fall Preview to be played at The Classic in Brainerd. The two-day event will be played Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 9-10.
Schedule note: The men's squad will host the SCSU Invite Sept. 22-23 at the St. Cloud Country Club. The women will play at Wapicada Golf Course in Sauk Rapids on Sept. 21-22 in the Blazer Invite. On Sept. 27, the Huskies will compete in a dual match against the College of Saint Benedict at Wapicada.

- Among the returning players is Second Team All-NSIC player Katie Kruchten
- Kruchten was also named to the NSIC All-Academic Team

- St. Cloud State is the defending NSIC Conference Champion after beating the field by 32 strokes last spring
- The Huskies return eight players from a year ago including NSIC runner-up and First Team player Tyler Koivisto
- Charlie West (First Team All-NSIC) and Devin Holmes (Second Team All-NSIC) are among the returning class
- The Huskies qualified for their 12th straight NCAA Super Regional and placed 19th.
- Brad Stieber was named to the All-Academic Team
- Head coach Judi Larkin was named the 2013 NSIC Men's Coach of the Year.
